I guess I was lucky as the first neuro consultants secretary had both ACM and SM. I now live in Poole Dorset so had to change consultants, the first 3 I sawknew nothing about it and told me it was all in my mind!! Luckily the 4th time I had a consultant who knows a lot about it and my neuro rehab consultant did too.
Every time I went to see my GP he didn't know what to do with me as he had no knowledge about it., I saw anothef GP for an emegency apointment and she knew a lot about both ACM and SM, and has been a god send.
If the consultant your daughter sees doesn't have much/any knowledge of the condition he/she will refer her to a consultant who has knoledge of it.
If you have any questions I will do my best to help you in any way I can. If we don't chat before I hope her appointment goes well and the consultant is knowlegable on her chiari. Please let us know how things go if that's ok?
Thankyou, she's been referred to Mr Pople who (from his profile) doesn't have any experience with Chiari which is worrying me more considering she had to spend 3 days in hospital last week due to dilated pupils and swelling behind her right eye(which still hasn't resolved) along with severe pain in her head and back and lost the use of her legs. She was sent home with pain management and told they would try to bring her appointment forward from 22nd April. Feels as though no-one really knows what to do with regards to this condition
I had my decompression surgery at Frenchay hospital. My conultant surgeon was Mr Gill, heis very knowlegable on Chiari and he performed my surgery. Mr/doctor foster at the same hospital is also very good with chiari so I've heard.
Hope this helps
Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.
There is a list for the UK...it is from the Ann Conroy Trust...I do not know the qualifications of the Drs on the list, but as ALL lists of Drs they r only here to help u get started to research Drs...they r not referrals.
