Oh ok I'm not sure that applies to me I don't choke on food, I choke on bad smells all the time but never if I'm swallowing food. Yeah they given me blood slips to go have done but I havnt yet they want to test for celiacs. Must do that soon lol Thanku I loved meeting people and I raised £150 for Ann conroy trust! X
gag reflex is a natural reflex to prevent choking. It is controlled by nerves in your throat, if these nerves are damaged you can swallow food that is to large and choke or it will stop you from swallowing in some cases by over reacting. Your GP will check it using a tongue depressor.
Reflux is where food and acid comes back up into your throat and causes heartburn. There are many causes including Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) witch is linked to sphincter relaxes. If you have Reflux you should talk to your GP. Unexplained weight loss is a cause for concern and should be checked out by your GP.
Well done on completing the Chiari Awareness walk in Portsmouth!

Hey rod good to have u back and hope your feeling a bit brighter, I havnt had my gag reflux checked?? What does that involve??? ;-) and what r the signs that would lead to it being chiari related!??
Hi..a cough or sneeze can cause me to grab my head in pain...it is a deff sharp pain that is more of a stabbing pain.....kind of like when straining.....
My vision gets blurry and my eyes hurt too.....
"selma"
I'd I sneeze or cough everything slows down and gets fuzzy and the pain starts to increase. I than feel this awful burning and pressure behind my eyes. Which I have on a daily bases but it intensifies and triples in the amount.
Hope that makes sence
Hi Taylapj, I understand just what you are dealing with. I also have a head cold at the moment and I dread sneezing or coughing.
It is obvious you like the work you do and it must be very frustrating having to give this up, I wonder do the medical world take this on board when they do their thing.
Have you had your gag reflex checked, ppl with CM also have problems with gag reflex.....
Ray
Oh it's so hard to do anything at the moment, the cold weighed me in but I have no choice but to work, I need the money, I've started to look for other jobs with regret. Part time desk jobs that are not as stressful but I'm pretty sure it's my spine issues that are causing the grief cause I can not get comftable ever! Waking up 2/3 times in the night resulting in even more fatigue than I all ready have, I'm pale as anything, loosing weight, when I sneeze or coughed the pain shot right up through my back up my head and felt like my head was gonna explode with the pressure, and my throat was sore, I've also noticed that I'm not swallowing some foods properly, even the smallest bite of a sarnie I'm really having to swallow hard to get it down. It's never ending :-(
Hi Tayla
Cant describe how headaches fell as never tracked them all I can say is that when I get a cold it floors me completely. Fatique is a killer my head feels as if it is about to explode and my brain just cannot cope with any amount of noise big or small, I have to stay in a quiet rm away from it all. It flares my balance issues off and wipes me out for at least 3 weeks. I usually then start to get that awful vibrating, tingling sensation back in my spine arms and legs.
When I mentioned this to ny NL he said he knew fully what I was saying and explained that when we are unwell our brains swell slightly to cope and help us fight infection and this is why with are already swollen brains we suffer more!!!! Dont no how true this is but adds up for me, my symptoms flare with colds, stomach upstes and periods!!!!
So listen to yr body Honey and give yourself time to rest.

I have heard for some that sneezing or coughing can cause horrible pain in their head. For me, what happens is that I immediately feel my ears plug and my head kind of goes "thump, thump" to my heartbeat and the pain pulses with it. However, the pain is not so bad that I am dropping to the ground. Sometime after that I will feel that the headache is starting at the back of my head but it doesn't get triggered right away and then sometimes it doesn't at all. I am post op though, it was much worse before. I had a horrible cold 5 days after the surgery and the only thing that helped even a little was to get a steaming bowl of water with a little vicks vapour rub in it, put a towel over my head and then inhale the steam. If you are allowed to take decongestants (I wasn't) then you can try that too.
I hope you feel better soon!
