I completely agree. As of right now i am a mom of 3 children and i am about to marry an amazing man. I planned before my problems began to finish my bahcleors and i have less then a year to go and to finish and begin my career in law which would be able to support us all. he can not work due to a heart condition that doe snot allow him to do hardly anything. he cares for the kids while i am in school very glad that they are all in school and i take night classes. after we are married we have to file bankruptcy we have no choice but to start completely over. my parents let us move into their home and they moved into a huge fifth wheel trailer so we could have our own place. As of right now I am being paid to go to school because my father is a disabled veteran and i can get benefits if i am still at home and til my degree is finished. but with all my symptoms and the fact im facing surgery im going to have to drop out of school and that is gonna totally take away my income. I wondered if there was a temporary SS so i could apply before or after my surgery just for the time it takes to recover and i can get back to school. does anyone know if that is possible? oh and we are waiting on my finaces ssi claim. it has been over 5 years and we finally hired a lawyer and think they may have gotten it this time around but they left his case open for 30 days so we wont know til next month. He was a heavy diesel mechanic and it upsets him every day he cant go back and support us.. so i have to find a way to make ends meet while i am off school and not able to work
I wish I could get disability. Ive been a stay at home mom for 13 years, raising special needs kids, 3 of which were adopted through foster care. I don't know why SS won't recognize that as working. My illnesses have screwed over my family so bad.
4 years ago I was healthy, on no meds other than OTC for occasional headaches and aches and pains. Doctor visits were rare. I did all the cooking, cleaning, and 99% of the childcare. Then I got severe arthritis in my hands. I was diagnosed with Spondylitis(autoimmune arthritis similar to RA that also affects my spine). I had injured my back the previous year, went through PT and was fine...we thought. Turns out I'd herniated a disc. I ended up rupturing that disc 2 1/2 years ago. Idiot doctors delaying surgery left me with severe nerve damage from butt to foot on one side: nerve pain and numbness. The injury alone wound be enough for SS. Then I had a slip and fall accident 14 months ago and the dizziness, headaches, nausea, etc started. I went from semi-functioning and being about 50% of what i was 4 yrs ago, to about 25% now...in a good week.
I don't qualify for SS disability. I didn't "work". My hubby makes too much for Me to qualify fir SSI. We spend hundreds of dollars a month on dr appts and meds now. My kids should be in an after-school program or daycare. My 3 year old should be in daycare. The only way we've made it work is with my hubby's very understanding boss. She's let him work from home basically full time. He takes conference calls and works on his laptop while keeping an eye on our 3 year old about 50% of the time. Jordan is not getting the care he needs on those days. He's just running around, playing, watching tv. I feel so terrible that I'm too sick to care for him. On good days, I try to do educational, creative stuff.
We're swimming in a sea of debt, teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. We've decided in order to avoid bankruptcy, we're going to shortsale our home(which means we get nothing out of it), and walk away. We're going to move to a cheaper state. CA is bleeding us dry. We've already defaulted on credit cards, so we'll save up and make settlements on the accts. We should be able to buy another house because my father agreed to buy it in his name, with our down payment and "rent" to us until we can assume the loan. 2 yrs wait after a shortsale. So right now, my hubby is seeing if his awesome boss will allow him to telecommute from another state. If not, he'll start sending his resume out. His field is in high demand in the Midwest and South. That's where we're looking
Sorry to hijack this thread, but I just want to demonstrate how unfair it is for SS disability to not be available to stay at home mothers. My husband has a few friends at work with a spouse on disability who actually came out ahead once they got it. They could give up their 2nd car, no longer have to pay for daycare for kids. What happens when a SAHM gets too sick to care for her kids? Their family gets screwed.
My adoption agency even looked into programs to help us out, but came up empty handed. It's really not fair. I plan to write my senator and representative to bring this to their attention.
Hey,
I applied twice for disability, as i havent been able to work for more than 2 weeks in over a year (and im hardly 25)They said that chiari / migraines is not enough of a reason for me to claim.. I was declined twice and the ss office here where i live told me to hire an attorney to re apply.. so.. I wish yiou better luck than me.
Hii, I am on disabilty for the Chiari but it does take awhile. I got turned down the first time and so I hired an attorney which is the best way to go. It took about 2 yrs because of the back log but it is supposed to be getting better so I hope it does'nt take as long for you. I don't know how severe your symptoms are but I believe that have to be severe enough that you can't perform any work. I also have PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) and I think that was part of my decision. I would hire an attorney so you don't have to deal with any of the paperwork except for the initial information packet. Best Wishes
Most people who are successful have used an attorney. Most people are turned down the first time. I almost think it is awarded to people who are persistant. I would talk to your doctor about if he feels this is appropriate since he will have some papers to fill out. They may also want you to see one of their doctors. I think you can start the process by contacting your local social security office.
Hi Tara...u need to talk with ur dr...he has to fill out some forms I believe......I have yet to do this...and it all depends on u and ur condition....but SSID is not something that is fast moving.....so be prepared to wait at least 2 yrs.
Most say get an attny to help move the process along.....
It is possible, to get this, but again it depends on u, ur condition and how ur dr describes ur condition.
