If you do decide to return to the Chiari Institute for you care, you can feel good about your choice, as many members here in this community have received great results there. IS there a reason why you chose to return to Pittsburgh for treatment - TCI doctors out of network? My insurance company told me that they would approve an out of network doctor if there are no other suitable surgeons within a 30-mile radius of your home. But I imagine that would have to be documented. The one thing I have read about many times on this community forum is that the measurement of the herniation is not as crucial. The important factor is determining if the flow of your CSF is blocked at any point. See Selma's reply above about ruling out other related conditions. Good luck to you. Keep current with this community, as there is a world of support to be had here.
Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.
There is a list here of Drs and the one in your area Is Dr Bejjani....some Drs even Chiari specialists will not do much if the herniation is less then 5 mm's...but if they are a true Chiari specialist they will not look at just the size of the herniation, they will look to see if you have a CSF obstruction and other related conditions....
Do see the list of Drs and be advised the list is not a referral nor an endorsement for those listed on it....it is only meant to be used as a tool for you to research the Drs...in the mean time learn all you can about Chiari and ALL the related conditions.
