Chiari Malformation and Red Scalp Rash Related?

For awhile now I've wondered whether there could possibly be a connection between Chiari 1 malformations and the presence of a red "birth mark" type rash on the back of the scalp where the malformation is. I haven't been able to find any confirmed connections so I was wondering whether anyone else who has the chiari malformation has this type of rash or "birth mark" also?

I was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation last year. I as well have a reddish rash like birthmark at the nape of my neck, right where the malformation is. They do not know very much about this condition so they probably have not looked into it yet. My daughter also has the mark, it scares me as well and I have thought about that being a connection or possibly an indicator for doctors to research the condition. I wish I could tell you the answer or to know one in return. But they may be related, they are not sure if it is heridetary or not either. Frankly, they don't know where it comes from or what it is linked to.

That's very interesting thank you for sharing. That's basically all I'm after at this point, just wondering if others may have the same mark and whether there is potential it could be linked. I wouldn't put my son through any unnecessary testing just for my own curiosity but it will be interesting to see whether one day he, or my mum, is similarly diagnosed. Hopefully not though

Hi....I have not heard of this that I recall....nor do I have it....but it is possible it could be a related condition causing the rash like birth mark.....May I ask, what have your Drs said in regard to the mark?

At this point I'm still waiting for an appointment with a neurosurgeon through the public healthcare system so I haven't had the opportunity to discuss it yet. To my understanding the signs and symptoms of chiari are vastly different and are still not quite understood so I thought perhaps there could be a connection.

The main reason I have this concern is because both my mother and my son have the same mark that I do. I am diagnosed, mum is not, but she does have all the same symptoms I do (well I have the same symptoms she has endured). But my main concern is my son.
Well if the rash or birth mark is due to a related condition like EDS or something than I feel that would explain it and could indicate you all could have Chiari as well.....it is still being studied but many believe that EDS is the reason Chiari develops invetro .
I am not familiar with EDS myself, I only heard of it recently, but that's interesting I will have to do some further research on that one.
