Well I have long thick hair now too, and it covers my scar, but I would not go out with out a brimmed hat..if ur hair parts there u will want to cover it with something....
I am sure sweetpea is right , that the burning could be the regrowth and healing process...we all experience the healing a bit differently...I did not experience that.....and that does not make one way right m, wrong, or common or unusual...it just makes me , me and u , u : )
I think when you say your head feels like it's on fire where the scar is, that can be from the nerve endings regrowing in that area. Scars take a long time to heal, so you need to give your body time. I don't have a Chiari malformation, but have had a number of surgeries for a malformation and the scars will always take a while to heal. The long scar I have on my leg hurt for over a year beyond my surgery date and felt "on fire" at times. It's been 3 years since now and that feeling is long gone. Do keep the scar covered though from the sun. I would recommend doing that for the 2 summers after the surgery to make sure the scar is healed and fine.
I have a smaller scar than most pictures of other people i have seen. It is covered by my hair. My hair kinda parts there now since i had surgery.
I am not sure how "normal" it is, but I have to wear a hat, always did, too much sun, and I get a bad HA..even with sunglasses...I need a brimmed hat.
Is the scar covered?
Since i had the surgery i cant go out in the sun very long its like my head is on fire where my scar is. It also gives me bad headaches is that normal after surgery? I had my pfd 8-23-2010
