Got my MRA and MRI results.

So, I got the results of mt MRA and MRI scans today.  The MRA came back normal, so I am very happy to know that I don't have any tumors, AVM's, aneurisms, etc.!  My MRI of the brain showed a chiari 1 malformation with 8mm herniation of the cerebellar tonsils with mild compression of the brainstem.  Now, the problem is that there was no comparison with my MRI showing my chiari 1 from 2004, so I don't know if the herniation has progressed since then.  Looking at the MRI from 04' compared to now with my ENT there is no obvious difference.  So, now I am going to see a NL and then possibly NS or maybe I will see both.  I am hesitant to see NS because I am not interested in brain surgery at this point in time, however our NS here is the best in the area and I think he would not push for surgery and would be willing to manage me medically and monitor my condition.  Anyhow, I will see NL first and go from there.  My primary MD cleared me to go back to working out, but I think I will avoid heavy strength training because I think it may have precipitated my headches and if not, it definately exacerbates them.  Anyway, I don't really have a question to post, I just thought I would post my latest progress.  Thank you all for listening....it helps.

Yes...I efinately want to remain active and stay as fit as possible as I feel that is important to my overall health, but I I think lifting heavy weights is just going to be a bad idea, I will keep it light for strength and toning and keep riding my bike for cardio.  I agree with your opinion that the best option is to see both NL and NS, after thinking about it last night and reading you post this morning I think I will request an appointment with NS as well.  Thanks for your input.

No....I haven't had the CINE MRI yet, but thank you for the advice I will definately discuss it with the NL at my appointment as well as discuss the impact of the brainstem compression and ask what the likelihood of it causing progressively worse symptoms is.

Hi...have u had the CINE MRI to determine if u have a CSF obstruction.....this is very important...more so than knowing ur herniation is 8mm.....do at least look into finding this out...the brain compression regardless how minimal is also a issue to discuss with a chiari specialist. Find out how this impacts ur overall health.

I agree with the working out, I had to give up tennis as well to minimize any further problems. However, its best to see both drs to get a well rounded opinion in any case. I just saw an NS yesterday, and will be seeing 2 different NLs for added measure.
