Has anyone had steroid injections post decompression surgery?

My son has had the decompression surgery, some symptoms relieved, some not, they want to inject a steriod into the ocipital  lobe to help pain and swelling, he is also having a ceribral spinal fluid leak that is collecting in a pocket, he is just a little over one year post op.  A very concerned and nervous mom.

On my way out the door... so it was quick search but I didn't find much via google. I don't have time to read through them myself right now but a general search here on MedHelp for :

occipital lobe injections

Did bring up several hits??? Perhaps some answers there.
Sorry I can't help much here,

Well I'm absolutely no expert, just another patient. But no I've not heard of that procedure. Hummm.... I can see why you would ask perhaps a google would bring up some results? or not? May be fine but I'd ask a lot of questions of the dr until you feel comfortable.

Have you ever heard of the injections, being done in the ocipital lobe of the brain?

As a matter of fact that is where I just came from. Mine are in the back and planned procedure in the very low cspine maybe [see my other post]. Pre-surgery they helped in the lumbar area but not cspine so we'll see. Did skyrocket my sugars though.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

I am so sorry to hear ur DS is still having post op set backs like these. Was he told to lie flat, drink plenty of water and to have caffeine to help stop the leak?...was a blood patch tried?

If the leak is small u can try having him lie flat for 5 days....if it  continues u will want to try the bloodpatch.

Sending good vibes ~~~~and prayers to u and ur DS and the people in charge of his care.
