Maybe good news

So, after the NS I was referred to locally sat on my referral for 3 weeks(still haven't heard from her office to schedule), I'd had enough with it. I sent a request for an appt to UC San Francisco neurosurgery dept. They said they would review my case. Yay! So, I called my insurance company to secure authorization to see A Dr. Barbaro there. My insurance is by-passing the med group, by classifying  it as a 2nd opinion consult(despite the fact that I've not had  a 1st opinion lol). The auth will be for only the consult, but if Dr Barbaro will take me on as a patient, we then have substantiated medical cause to secure an out-of-region referral.

I was never comfortable with trying the local neurosurgeon. I don't trust that a regular neuro will be right for me, or even knowledgeable in more up-to-date surgical options. I feel much better about going to UCSF. They're ranked in the top 5 for neurosurgery in the country, even if they don't have a chiari specialist per se.

I just hope this can go quickly. My hubby works in San Fran a few days/month, so we may even be able to schedule appts so that we can stay at a hotel on the company dime. Hehe. Appts in the morning, and he works in the SFO office in the afternoon. My mother lives an hour outside SFO too, so she may be able to come offer support or even go with me instead of my hubby; and he can work all day. We'll figure it out. I just really feel a lot more at peace with going to UCSF, not conflicted, like I was about going with the local NS.

Please wish me luck, that i'll be able to be seen my Dr Barbaro and I won't have any more insurance delays or snafoos. Thanks.

TTFN,
Jenn

BTW, it's now been 6 weeks since my Opthamologist discovered optic nerve swelling and recommended surgery. My rt eye is the one affected. I've been having problems with a strange feeling in that eye, as well as cloudy vision. Is this normal for optic nerve swelling?
