DD needs surgery

My 6yr old just got DX last month with 20mm and Syrinx after yrs of fighting with doctors to check her because after I was dx in 09 I started noticing more and more symptoms with her so anyways I have not had surgery but when we went to NS for my DD they said she needs surgery it is freaking me out of course im not showing it to anyone but I am starting to second guess myself on telling doc to do it
( waiting for call back for day) I know she needs it they found the Chiari because she had sleep study and she has central apnea and of what they said its pretty bad but not bad enough that she needs something to help her at night they said it is pretty close she also has leg, back, neck and arm pain but not all time but when she does have she cries cause its so bad she had just recently started slurring some of her words talking out of 1 side of her mouth 1 eye is slower reacting then other but not by much she is having potty accidents and doesn't realize she did until she feels shes wet shes having memory problems and even though she is on honor roll and reading at 3 grade level being in 1st she is starting to have problems mainly with math and anything to do with looking at pictures
My question is should I wait for the surgery? I am really scared that im making the wrong choice

Hi!  I'm Tina.  I agree with Selma.  Kids bounce back from this surgery more quickly than adults.  My sister, me and my nephew all have CM and have all had the surgery.  My nephew had his done when he was 6 and his recovery from that surgery was remarkable...so much quicker and easier than mine or my sister's who had the surgery as adults.

I hope that you have a good doctor and that your daughter gets relief soon.  Hugs to you both.

Hi....I agree u will want to do this while she is still young and it gets worse, but I would advise moving forward cautiously ...see another Dr for an opinion and make sure it is a true Chiari specialist and ALL related conditions are ruled out B4 she has surgery....I can not stress enuff the right Dr and knowing what else may be going on will affect how she feels and heals post op.

Children bounce back from this surgery quite well....but take the time to get a few opinions....

Do u know what type of surgery they want to do? There are a few types of decompression that can be done.

I am with Munchies.  We are her to protect and help our children.  I have had it and I would not want my kids or grand kids have this for one minute.  You say she is on the honor roll will, she is got the gump to be there don't take it away.  It is natural to scared take it and make it a postive and grow with it,  From what you say about her she is amazing dealing with it already, she sounds like one that will adapt and overcome any obsticle she needs to.  The best thing is she is in GODS hands.  So please the longer you wait the more permanent damage can be done..

Going to be quick and blunt. Do it before your daughter gets worse. I know its scary but she it pretty bad at the moment. The chance has come for you to make the choice of potentially "fixing" her. Take it. The central apnea can be deadly.. I dont want to scare u but im sorry it can...
To me it is the right choice. She is 6 and suffered for years already. It wont magically fix itself unfortunatly so waiting is pointless :(
