It is possible....once they hand u off they feel u r no longer their patient.....I don't get that bcuz we still need a NL to monitor our condition even after we have surgery....if he , ur NL is not well educated in chiari he may not want to handle ur case.
Some just have a staff that does not forward info to the dr in a timely manor....so it can be a staff issue....I know u want answers, but they will come in due time...so try and relax the best u can...and keep calling.

I'm not sure if my insurance mandates it or not but I know the only place who has Chiari specialist around here says I need a referral.
Coul the NL not be calling back since he has referred me to an NS who just hasn't gotten back to me yet?
for the MRI's u generally have to pick those up...they only send reports...call again and go to the facility that did the studies and they should have them ready when u get there.....going forward request copies when u sign in for the test and they will see u have it b4 u leave...takes approx 15 mins if that....
if u have a chiari dx u need a NS not a NL......and it deff needs to be a chiari specialist not a random NS.....does ur insurance mandate u have referrals?

I have copies of the report but the not the actual MRI, for some reason they didn't send that when I requested both.
I am actually going to have to get a second opinion since it has been 3 weeks since I have heard from my neurologist after I have left him countless messages telling him the meds are no longer working for the headaches and nausea.
I am hoping my PCP can refer me to a neurologist Monday when I go see him.
Hi Ben...by standards 15mm is a large herniation.....but what is more important is the width and if it is causing a CSF blockage...overcrowding is also important.
The cyst can be a syrinx depending on where it is located...most are in the cervical spine.
Wait to see what he says......did u get copies of the MRI and the report?...if not call the facility and request copies in case u need to go for second opinions.
Good luck
