Just wondering

Hi I am the grandmother of a four year old boy. Back in Feb. he had a seizure like episode which I did not see. He was staying at his other grandmother's. Took him to the er and after everything they thought it was night terrors. Then about a month ago he had another this time I seen this one. No doubt it was a seizure. I know cause my daughter which is his aunt had them most of her life due to ts. So his doc sent us for an mri. Got the call yesterday that they found something. They told us he has Chiari Malformation but that had nothing to do with the seizure like episodes he had. So my question is are there any connections between the 2. Thanks.

Hi selmaS and thanks you so much for the info. I will make sure that he gets tested for all. I am just so confused right now. I have never even heard of Chiari until yesterday. Are there any good website that I can look up? Once again thank you.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

I am not sure if there is research to support what I am going to say, but yes, there is a connection and until u get to a true Chiari specialist u may get the run around,.....there r far too many Drs that do not recognize that Chiari will cause symptoms at all let alone one like seizures.

We have had other members that have developed seizures or epliepsy  along with their Chiari....that is  in both children and adults.

There are several related conditions that all with a Chiari DX should get tested for, and children should be tested for sleep apnea as they seem to have more issues with it...so make sure he is tested for that and ALL related conditions,
We do have a list of Drs for u to use to research...the list is not a referral nor an endorsement.

If u need help navigating this forum please let us know.
