Low grade fever?

So I'm home from the hospital and doing fairly well 10 days post op. Sutures come out tomorrow. I'm taking it real easy, resting tons and being pampered by my family :) I'm still struggling with dizziness so I need a walker and supervision to get around, but I'm still sitting up a lot and walking around the house as much as I can (I can hear selmas helpful online reminder, make sure you keep moving:)

I have a question tho. I have a low grade fever that's been creeping up for the last two days. Started in the low 99s but now I just checked it and it's 100.2. Discharge instructions say only call if it's over 100.5, but I'm not one to ever get fevers. I feel dumb calling when they said I shouldn't worry yet. Incision looks fine. I've been chilled sometimes and sweating other times.  But I am a bit nervous. What do you think I should do? Call? Just watch closely? Stop being a worry-wart? :)

Thx again for your help, as always

Thanks Selma.  Things sound crazy with the meningitis and the other recent post, but still  overall things are really positive.  Thanks for your thoughts and prayers and hugs and I'll write more soon!!

I'm too tired to write much tonite but wanted to do a quick update. Will provide the full update (and rant) tomorrow. Long story short, kept having the low grade fever and chills, then came the new monster headache, body aches, etc., and my docs called me in for tests.  They're thinking I have aseptic meningitis. Have lots of research to do on the forum tomorrow and questions for you who have had to deal with this before but your comments above were totally right!! Thx for steering me in the right direction!!  Look for full details tomorrow...

We're at 99.6 this morning.  Still not high enough to really concern me, and although I'm feeling worn out and sleeping a lot, I think it still feels like normal post-surgery stuff.  So I'm still gonna monitor closely and develop a wait-and-see attitude.

Just thought I'd update you all.  Thanks for sharing your stories - you've all really been through some rough stuff :( and thanks for the prayers!!

I also had low grade fever with chill's , hot sweat's.  I ended up going in because of high heart rate and they stated my body was in shock.  When we have this surgery I didn't realize anyway what effect's it has on the body.  Just keep being observant and if it worses.  Call.  That is what they are there for.   Rest, Rest and more rest.  Best of luck.

the same thing happened to me after my surgery. i went back on the steroids and my fever basically went away and i felt much better. so it may be inflammation, but like everyone else said if it continues then it can't hurt to call and talk to them about it.

Hi Meg, I asked how you were feeling post-op in the question that I asked, but your post basically answers it. Sorry that you are not feeling well and I hope it goes away soon so you start feeling better!

I have been slowly moving my head back and forth as much as I can. As soon as I feel it stiffen I try to move it around (which is basically whenever I'm not asleep haha). They sent me home with orders for PT but only after my sutures are out tomorrow, so I'll be calling to set that up tomorrow.

So right now I feel run down and chilled, but not too weird or off. I think I'll keep resting and taking my temp every few hours, and only call if it goes over the number they said. Thanks for the reassurance. Sometimes you just need someone else to bless your plan, you know what I mean? And I figured if anyone would know whether a low grade fever is an automatic red flag, you guys would. Tanks again!

I agree with Selma!  If you feel like crap and have a fever than just call and talk to them.  I had aseptic meningitis with Surgery number two and had the low grade fever, just barely got to the 100.5 and I felt terrible for days before I finally called, I should have called earlier!

I was offered a walker but choose to lean on my family instead :) Probably should have just taken the walker but didn't :)

I hope you feel better soon!!! -zygy

Hi...I was wondering how u were doing.....I also used a walker, so, that is pretty typical...no worries there...walk when u can and rest, rest , rest!

Also u need to be moving ur neck....did u get exercises to do that?...u do not want scar tissue, or for it to heal in the wrong position....

As for the low grade fever....I know u say u do not usually get fevers, and that ur Dr said to wait until or unless it is  a certain temp...but, if u also just do not feel right, chills and what not, call about that and say BTW I also have a low grade temp, but it is not up to where u said to call, but, I just do not feel right.

We r talking 3 points here...and if u sweat and get chills, I would call about that...see what they say.
