MRSA, elevated white blood cell count

So, my PCP called me with the lab results for my pre-op testing and she said I tested positive for MRSA , and a slightly elevated white blood cell count. She said it was nothing to be concerned about but has this happened to anyone else before?

Hopefully it is something not too major for either of us. I am going to go to my pcp to get this straighteded out but when I called she doesnt have any appointments so I have to wait until a cancelation. Which is fine with me. To be honest with you, I still am suffering a great deal, but now that this is being delayed I am thinking about waiting until after the holidays. My daughters bday is coming up them Christmas, and I am still working on quitting smoking and I want to stop about 4-6 before my surgery.. So for right now, I am ok with waiting.. BUT I will be thinking about you. Let me know what is going on, if they decide to go ahead with the surgery or not

Hi,
They also found an elevated WBC count in me too. So now they found irregular cells and elevated WBC. My doc thinks its a urinary tract infection, so I will start taking antibiotics - so crazy. Are you taking antibiotics for the MRSA or something else? Johns Hopkins is good about making sure we are all okay before operating which is a good thing but psychologically it is draining. Good luck.  Vicky

Hello first of all don't panic, this is quite common to be tested positive pre op for anything, it's standard procedure to swob people pre op, they will probably schedule you last op of the day and give you a pre treatment of a nasal spray a few days before the op. So don't worry. I'm positive that it's not related to chiari, lots of people are carriers but it lays dormant in thier bodies. Xx
