Good luck and congratulations : )
Thanks! I don't know why but ever since they called me today, I'm so unbelievably stressed. Like I can't breathe.... Also because I'm getting my neice for a few days (she's 5) and I don't have kids and I'm a nervous personality anyway. I'm hypersensitive and need a lot of "alone" time to re-energize from all the energy sucked out of me by people every day and so I'm giving up that "me" time (willingly) and adding the stress of taking care of a child (I don't have any kids) and I can't believe how over the top nervous I am. I feel like a moron that I am complaining about something that millions of people do very well everyday. I'm one of those people that would have padding and bumpers everywhere and my house is definitely not kid proof and I'm freaking out thinking what do I do if she chokes or throws a fit or something. LOL. I'm so sad. :-P :-)
Take a deep breathe...u can do this....plan on doing things but not for long periods of time....
Kids attention span is not that long.....have a few board games, cards, crafts...even have her help with baking...what ever u r doing.,...have her help.
remember what it was like to be a kid and be one....enjoy : )
LOL congrats !!!! Where is the Mayfield center?
Your not sad...I have 3 kids and WISH I had bumpers and padding all over my house...My life would be alot less stress...hehe
Don't frerakout though. A five year old will surely have some down times.
Here a few hints... YOu could make one night MOVIE night.
Friday is movie niight in my house. We pop popcorn, and everybody brings there pillows and blankets into the living room and pile up. Pick out 2 movies to watch ...or do a disney new release night(they release their new wpisodes on fri. night). By the 1/2 of the second movie...they are normally out and then it "alone" time.
Make sure you have something for her to draw write and color on..little girls love that.
I bet she would also love to play dress up in your clothes.
Pick out a few outfits and let hert go through them....
And if all else fails...let her brush your hair and do your "pretend makeup"
My girl uses a paper plate with color spots and makeup brushes or paint brushes for this...its easy cheap. and she will think you are the coolest for it.
Just wanted to give you a few ideas to maybe calm you a bit. YOU KNOW...stress give "us" the unbearable ha's and you DEF. dont need one of those with a 5year old....LIS
Sheila
Here is a copy and paste from our Dr list:
Dr. John M. Tew, Jr.
Mayfield Clinic
Unv Medical Arts Bldg.
222 Piedmont Ave, Suite 3100
Cincinnati, OH 45219
(513)221-1100
Ooooooo, good ideas especially brushing my hair. LOL> Selfish of me I know but I remember that from a kid, now that you mention it, can be really relaxing. Hmmm :-) I'm going to fix brownies tonight and let her help. She never gets any person attention except yelling and "don't do that." So I want her to feel like a little helper. And I got some crayons, books, stickers and a table so she can sit in the living room too. She's undernourished so I need to get some quality calories in her. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
As Selma said Mayfield is in Ohio. I WILL DEFINITELY keep you all posted for those in this area and hopefully it will help you find a doctor around here (if you are close by) since we seem to have so few options available to us.
Oh and for the last 2 days, I DVR'd a bunch of disney stuff (not that I want her parked in front of a tv - she already has too much of the tv babysitter) and she loves dress up. She has a ton of that stuff - hopefully she'll get to bring it.
Dr Tew had a good reputation in chiari circles b4 this chiari center was started....so even tho the center is new, he is not new to chiari.
Sounds like u will have a great time...and this will take ur mind of other issues...just be a kid with her and all will be ok : )
