Ear Dr?

Has anyone else been sent to an Ear, Nose and Throat Dr to rule out anything?  Seems dr's here are not taking me seriously!!!  Even had one ask me if I was on drugs...LOL...not yet!! Visited the ENT this morning and gave him a copy of my MRI (which shows low lying cerebellum tonsils) and he said there was nothing I could do for that.  Just had to live with it and it would cause no symptoms.  Instead, he gives me a diuretic and says I have Meniere's Disease....I don't think so! I'm about to the point of giving up and just going with the flow now!
I was so bad yesterday, I could not even get up and take my child to school....What to do from here????

There r many NS and NL's that do not recognize chiari so it is not surprising that a reg PCP does not think it is the cause of ur issues.....so I would suggest if u do not have copies already, ask for copies of ur MRI's and the report and get an opinion from a true chiari specialist which can be done from the MRI's....so do consider it.

Well, I did go back to my regular doctor today.  He said my MRI showed low lying tonsils, but he didn't think that was what was causing my issues.  I am now on b/p meds (not sure why, I already have low b/p)..BUT was told that would help with the fluid (that's not in my ears)....it's been a very long, depressing day!!!

Thank you guys so very much for replying to me!!!  It really does help!!!

I dont have much to add except to say welcome!  I have been sent to ENT for swallowing issues and had numerous swallowing tests, etc.

I hope this helps.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

This is a long and bumpy road from dx to proper care and drs...and sooooooo many drs along the way that claim there is nothing that can be done.....

I know many members here have been to ENT's to rule out ear issues since we all have them with chiari...and several have been mis dx'd with Meniere's.

Over the yrs I gave up many times with drs until I would find myself in a flare and needed to try again......I am adding a link to a drs list thread, the names r of the members drs, so u still have to research them, this is not to be used as a referral.....and keep in mind u may have to travel to get to a true chiari specialist-http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Chiari-Malformation/LIST-OF-CHIARI-SPECIALISTS/show/1293483

Have u been tested for related conditions....and a CSF obstruction?

Hi,
I had an appt with a wonderful ear Dr. today. She specializes in vertigo so I went to have all those test done Hoping that it was an ear problem and it could be easily fixed. Unfortunately it wasnt. I have perfect hearing and all of my symptoms (tinnitus, dizzeness, vertigo...etc...) are not being caused by an ear problem. The good news if there is any is she is somewhat familiar with Chiari and has done some research on it. She believes my symptoms are totally caused from the malformation and thinks it could possibly be from lack of blood flow.  She thinks my arteries are being comprimised by the overcrowding.
That is something I haven't thought about and it certainly hasn't been suggested by any other Dr. She said I should find myself a true Chiari Specialist asap...Haha Go figure...I wish it were that simple :)
Well good luck. God knows we all need it. I sure hope some doors open soon because I'm not sure how much more of this I can take!!

It was nice to at least be in a Dr. office and feel like I was believed and being taken seriously though!! Why is it so hard for some of these Dr.s to believe that we really are having these issues?? What would we benefit from making this stuff up??

Hi,
I have not yet seen a Chiari dr.  I'm not even sure any exist in Mississippi.  After the visit with the ENT dr this morning, I called my regular physician and am going to talk with him this afternoon.
All I could do was cry this morning when I left the ENT!  This is sooooo frustrating!!!  Glad to have this forum to chat with people and see that I am not the only one, although, sometimes it feels like it.

Thanks for your comment!  Wish me luck this afternoon.  Hoping I will get a little further.

Hi, I´m sorry to hear what you are going through.

Yes I have, to rule out problems in my inner ear, I was experiencing dizziness and vertigo.
they didn't see anything there so I am still in the dark as for why this keeps happening.

Have you been seen by an specialized chiari dr?  I would recommend that you find one if you dont have it already.   Don´t give up, this is hell going through but you´ll find someone willing to listen if you just keep on going :) Others here might have better advices for you.. I am in the process of waiting to be seen by a real Chiari dr. so I know how frustrating this can get.. hang in there :)

Wish you all the best :)
