More than one incision for just chiari?

When I talked with Dr B last month he told me that I would be getting 2 seperate incisions. One across the back of my head where the skull sticks out and one up the back when the cerebellum is. He told me that he would be taking a piece of the membrane out of the top incision and placing it in the lower one. Has anyone else had this type of surgery for Chiari? Keep in mind I have ONLY chiari, no syrinx or anything else. .. I have searched up n down and havent been able to find any confirmation of this surgery being performed on anyone else.. If you have please let me know and help to put my mind to ease some.. The date is just over two weeks now.. And im pretty sure its not the time to freak out...

thanks guys!

I just came back from seeing Dr. B in New York. He told me the same thing, the way I tood it was that he would take skin from the second incision for the first incision. He told me that both incisions would only be about 2.5 inches long. Hope this helps. I was also just dx with just chiari and a moderate degree of constitutional joint hypermobility (is what the papers say).

Hi...it sounds like Dr B is harvesting ur skin for ur patch....it seems TCI would rather use the patients own skin to help avoid rejection issues of the other types.

My incision is one long one and it turns over to the right...where my drain was...u can see my incision or scar in my pics on my profile page...

SO it was like 2 ...in length....but done to look like one continuous incision.....
