Nausa and Vomiting after Chiari Decompression

My daughter had decompression surgery last Oct. 2007, then in Januray 2008 had surgery to repair the patch, then in
Feburary to try a diffirent kind of patch, it it tore, and finally had to have a shunt put in due to producing to much cerebral fluid.  Since March she has been in the hospital 3 times for nausa and vomiting.  Every time she has gone in for this her white blood cells are slightly elevated, but not enough to be put on any meds.  Has anyone had this problem and if so what did they do about it?   Pat

I've always had a strong stomach, but since my surgery 5 months ago I've had nausea a lot more often than is normal for me.

You might consider getting her on something to help with that, like prilosec if it's an acid problem. Because, believe you me, vomiting after brain surgery is no fun :(.

Might have her checked about an ulcer. Chiari can be very stressful to anyone, especially a child.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I haven't had surgery, but if I was in this situation I believe I would go get a second opinion......I am not sure where u r at in the states, but just because a NS does chiari surgery- does not mean they r specialists.....how many surgeries a year does ur NS do?

Please see a second NS, pref one that does nothing but chiari .

Good luck
