Wow,
Just read your post. I too have tried bowling being 2 yrs. post-op. Does not agree with me at all! Even using the lightest ball, it will increase pain in my neck, shoulders and head, creating as you explained a chiari headache. I think it's due to the strain on the muscles in the neck area? But im not sure, But it sure does inflame everything again. I have also tried other excercise options, turns out I am not able to do anything other than walking! Everything else gives me a major migraine, even bending over still will make me extremely dizzy and hurts my head! So stupid!! I struggle with household chores as well, sweeping, vaccuming, any kind of scrubbing, NO! I have found that if I over do anything, which is so aggrevating to me that I will pay for it later so I am forced to ask for extra help and I don't like it, lol. I do hope things get better for you, take it slow and just don;'t push yourself.
The dr made me wait 4 months after surgery to go back to my bowling league in Sept. The only side effect from bowling is a slight stiff neck the next morning. I also do simple yoga. The dr also suggested water aerobics - I start this week and will keep you posted.

Thanks Molley!
In this area there aren't any PTs that where willing to learn what is needed to be done for a Chiari patient. So we're just trying to keep moving. But I think we can mimic that movement on the total gym.
in pt they make me ride the arm bike and that is kinda fun

HI Wolf...I was told not to vacume...no pushing ect...so bowling would have never entered my mind......also I was very hypersensitive to loud noise..and a bowling alley is loud.....
I have tried a stair stepper...and can only do short periods like 2.5 mins at a time.....or it gets to me.....even shopping still gets to me.....I am trying...I called my dr and was told by the nurse I was doing too much!?...what ?......
I know the stair steper is out for u, but the total gym....can u reduce the tension?.....
what about light weights like 2lbs...and do some curls.....if that is too much try soup cans...and build up to the bigger chunky cans......
what does bother me the most is my shoulder and neck area too....
I do get lower back pain and my legs go numb if I walk too long.
