Surgery

Hi everyone,
After a day from hell with pain (is it ok to say that here?) decided to have surgery, could you guys that have had surgery tell me what to expect right after and in the months to follow? Scared out of my mind, have two little girls that need me.

Alex....be careful and know that the surgery is not a cure, but a means to slow progression of the condition. If  untreated a syrinx could form and possible perm nerve damage....so, but doing surgery we try to avoid all that....and pray we also lose a few of the major symptoms as well.

I must admit, I do feel better since I had surgery.....but I still have issues.....I am not trying to talk u out of it or scare u more, just want ur expectations to be on the right level.

IIMHO u want to know if u have EDS so u know which dura patch is best for u. And I am sure ur dr will check all this out for u.

Let me know if u need help locating ne of the threads

Thanks so much for the reply, I will go check those two threads, I did get tested for the syrinx plus don't know what else, I don't have one.. I have abnormal scf and a slight obstruction, not total. He also told me that I don't have much room back there, there's alot of crowding of the cerebellum into cranium area. He told he would be removing a piece of the skull to create more room for the brain and also opening the dura, what kind of graphing I have no idea since we spoke on phone briefly and have not sat down to the actual surgery talk yet, I just made the decision today to have it for sure due to having such a bad day, where before I'd have good days for a few weeks now there's only days between pain episodes, and I'm sure it's going to get to the point that the pain will not go away at all if I don'[t have the surgery.

HI Alex....I had my surgery in May....I can tell u what I went thru, but that does not mean u will go thru it also.We all have different circumstances prior to surgery and is Y we have a diff experience.I do have my experience journaled here on my profile page.....which u should have access to....we also have a zipperhead thread with  some experiences listed on the thread.

If u were not afraid I would be concerned...I was scared as well.As I heal I take it a day at a time and share what I do know.

Ur surgeon and  type of procedure he does will affect the outcome....were u checked for tethered cord, a syrinx, and ehlers-danlos?.....CSF blockage?

What exactly r u having done?....A PFD, and endoscopy or a boney decompression.....will the dura be opened...if so what kind of patch will u be getting?

Knowing the answers to those and a few more may help to say how things may go, or what to expect neway.

Different hospitals even do things  in a way that may not seem familiar to what I might tell u , unless u go to the same one I went to.

Please see the Zipperhead thread and or my journal.....and if u have specific questions...I am more than happy to answer them for u.
