Pain at the base of the skull.

I'm wondering if anyone finds it painful and sensitive at the base of the skull. I use to put one of those doughnut pillows under my neck when I read. Now if I do it I get a painful, burning sensation from the pillow right at the base of my skull.

Hi...it is possible to have changing symptoms/issues......it is possible that for some reason you are experiencing some inflamation in the area where the pillow is touching....

How long have you noticed this pain?
The area in question is tender but does not look to be swollen. I have been experiencing this pain off and on for ove 3 years.
The inflammation could be internal.....maybe is not noticable. What has your Dr said about it? Have you had decompression surgery?
No compression surgery. I have had 2 cervical fusions 1 posterior 1 anterior , c3-c6. Neither seemed to help, both seemed to present new issues.
I can imagine, scar tissue from those surgeries alone could cause more issues due to  it causing more CSF flow obstructions. Hmmm....Wish I was able to offer more insight.
