Post Op Morning Headaches

Hi All,

I'm 3 weeks post op, and I've been getting this lingering headaches most mornings. It's a pressure type headche on the side of my head just past the eyes. I was also getting eye pain for a couple of weeks, but that seems to have subsided.

Is this normal? The only thing I could think of is that there is pressure remaining from the device used to fixate my head during surgery. Just seems odd to me that it occurs only in the morning.

Many thanks!

Yes, if you are weaning off meds that can cause HA's and  yes you will have some HA's as your body heals and adjusts to having more space....

Hope your recovery continues smoothly.

I was also taking 500mg of Diamox every morning and night up until my surgery. Also seems possible that my body could just be adjusting to life after Diamox.

I usually sleep flat on my back or on my side. I'm not inclined. And since my doctor hasn't given me clearance to exercise yet, my days are usually filled with watching tv and such.

I notice the headaches while I'm still lying down. It doesn't seem to be caused by changing positions. I did have that issue soon after my surgery, but that has dissipated.

I'm also in the process of weaning off Effexor which I've always taken in the morning, so maybe that could cause headaches too? Only problem is that I only started getting the morning headaches after my surgery. I only started weaning off the Effexor about a week ago.

When I asked my surgeon about these headaches last time I saw him, he said that it was all part of my recovery. Essentially that my brain was in one environment for 24 years and now that environment is different. Who knows. Just a nuisance.

Hi, yeah the halo can add to some post op issues that do not last long.....but since you said pressure headache....I am thinking it may not be from the halo.

How do you sleep? Flat, inclined? What activities are you doing during the day?

Do you notice the headache while still in bed or not until you stand up, or sit up?

It could be a CSF pressure HA that occurs when you change positions.....try to get up slowly....a little at a time....changing your position and see if that helps.
