Reading MRI report

Hi everyone,
I posted a question last week about my son who's 18 months old.  He had been diagnosed with having strokes in utero and I was wondering if his strokes had anything to do with his recent diagnosis of chiari 1.  His neurologist said he believes they are 2 completely independent issues.  He gave me a copy of his recent MRI where they discovered chiari.

It says the cerebellar tonsils descend 2.2 centimeters below the basionopisthion line consistent with chiari 1 .  There is an associated marked attenuation of bidirectional CSF flow both dorsal and ventral to the cord at the craniocervical junction.  We go see Dr. ellenbogun at Seattle Children's tomorrow.  Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts or comments, advice?

Thanks

A CINE MRI is one that shows actual flow in real time, a movie of CSF flow...instead of still pics taken with a reg MRI....this way they can detect is ur CSF pulsates with ur BP.

It is a tool most Chiari Drs use to see if there is an obstruction that may change in a short time frame and possibly missed with the still shots.

What is a CINE MRI?  I'm guessing he hasn't had one yet?

Hi,,,,well 2.2 cent. is a large herniation in one so small to begin with....u said there was CSF flow, so not sure how that is handled...did he have a CINE MRI?

The Dr u r going to is well known for treating Chiari so it sounds like he is in good hands....

All I can offer is well wishes it goes well with the visit.
