Hello Afsal, Welcome to a place where you can get support and encouragement in your medical journey. Other members who are part of this community can offer ideas and suggestions to help you. The first thing to know is that it is best to see a true Chiari specialist. There is a list on this forum on which members post names of surgeons/doctors who have helped them. The list can serve as a starting point for your research in choosing a specialist. The list is not meant to be a referral or recommendation; it is just a list of names of those surgeons who have proven helpful to members.

Chiari malformation is not well understood in the general neurology community. Many neurologists are not current with the recent medical literature. Some even dismiss the condition as being not significant. The key question to consider is how many Chiari surgeries has the neurosurgeon done in the past year. It is also important to know about the disorders that often accompany Chiari Malformation. As Selma mentions above, there are other conditions that can occur with Chiari. The presence of any of these other disorders should play a key role in the decision for surgery and/or other treatments.

Keeping a pain journal has proven to be really helpful to me. When you see a specialist, you will want to report all your symptoms – even ones that do not occur all the time. It is really difficult to remember all the details of your medical history when you are in an appointment. I print a copy of all the key things from my pain journal that I can give to the doctor at the beginning of the appointment.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

It can take time and can depend on how long prior to surgery you had compression of the nerves or brain stem.....surgery is done to restore CSF flow and slow progression of a syrinx if one is present....

Surgery may not take away all symptoms....and it can sometimes be a slow recovery process....we need to have patience....and allow our body all the time it needs....

May I ask were ALL related conditions ruled out?
