Recovery

I was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation on August 19th, I had decompression surgery on sept the 4th. Recovery is going well. I have had a few headaches since the surgery and omg yesterday's was very bad! Since surgery, the back of my head is numb from ear to ear, and from the bottom to the top of my head!?!? The numbness on the back of my head feels like it spreads to the top of my head one day and then is just on the back of my head the next. Also my left thigh from hip to knee goes in and out of numbness now instantly?!?! My neurosurgeon told me it's just from the surgery and should go away after time. Has any one had or heard of this? How long did it last or does it even go away? I am new to the chiari world, and googled the mess out of chiari but have not come across the numbness issue. Any feed back would greatly help cause the only answer I receive is "it's all from the surgery". I know it is from the surgery but that's all they can tell me! Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the forum.  This will cover you both as I have had this and it takes time.  Tallzips Yes this is normal especially if you had a syrnix and depending on the size.  A syrnix can and does mess with your nerves and your numbess like Selma siad it is them healing trying to find the correct path.  I was told by by doctor that cause the size of my syrnix can take upto 1 to 2 years to heal properly.  I do have the numbness and tingles everyday in different parts of my body, my grand baby calls them papaws crawly worms or the itchies.

Your NS knows it is knowing things is not right and getting things done.  If this went on for a extended period of time.  If your syrnix or have one can refer to top.  This Friday Oct 18 should be good.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

It is possible it is from surgery as ur nerves heal, they can be over stimulated and cause pain and numbness.....

Most of us have these issues of healing starting around our 3 month post op annv.......

If the numbness came and stayed then I would call the Drs.
