Sudden Fatigue

For the past few weeks, I have been extremely tired.  I find myself falling asleep all the time..can barely keep my eyes open.  At first I thought I was coming down with the flu.  I had even gone to the dr within a few days of feeling this way (for a separate check up), and they said I had a fever...so I'm like OK, I'm just sick.  But it won't go away.  I wake up in the morning, feel fine, and then as soon as I get out of bed I am exhausted.  I'm sleeping 10-12 hours a night, sleeping through the night, no yawning, just plain tired!

I had to stop taking my BP meds because they were making it worse.  I don't need them to control my BP, they are for exertion headaches...my BP is normal.

I know fatigue can be a Chiari symptom, but has anyone had this happen so suddenly and so severely?  I've had Chiari symptoms for a couple years now, so this is strange to pop up now.  My neuro said to go to my PCP, which I will be doing..but wanted to ask anyway.  Thanks!

Oops...sorry, I missed that you already discussed sleep apnea.  Disregard.  Thanks

This happened to me as well.  I suddenly developed sleeping disorders and didn't know it.  I'm not overweight, don't take drugs, don't have tonsils etc etc etc and had no idea that it was a sleeping disorder.  Dr's thought maybe just narcolepsy but were surprised to find I had sleep apnea even though I don't snore or sleep with my mouth open.  So if you have Chiari and you've ruled out all the ideas and suggestions above, check into the sleep disorder.  Your body could be struggling or even stopping breathing when you're sleeping.

Well the Vit D and magnesium work hand and hand...so if one is low, it can affect the other...u need the magnesium in order to absorb the Vit D.

Hope u feel better after u get ur levels up

Dr called and said my vit D is low and is putting me on a supplement.  We'll see how that goes!

The magnesium - my neuro had me on 400.  It never bothered me before, but maybe it got to me this time.

Make sure when they test u for thyroid it is not just the TSH they do, make sure they include the free T3 and free T4 and TPO antibodies along with the TSH as it can appear normal if they only do the TSH and it is a autoimmune issue...so, it is important they run the right tests.

How much of the magnesium r u taking?....it will affect ur digestive track if u take too much.....

Dr is testing my thyroid, B12, and vit D so we'll see.  I'm also taking my magnesium and eating bananas and have been feeling slightly better today...though today I also feel horribly sick to my stomach.  Coincidence? Probably.  Fortunately she did not think sleep apnea is likely but will of course test me if this persists.  Thanks for all the info.

Hi… As much as I hated to admit it, i do have episodes of Chronic Fatigue…I can sleep for hours in a day for days mostly 3 days and suddenly I wake up with so much energy I can rule the world! Once I did have a very very low BP and had to go to the Doctor because I got the feeling it was not my usual CF episode…. 60/40 BP… I received meds and got over it…. but I do tend to blame it on CM!

Hi...I was feeling just like this and did not know what the problem was...it started after having a reaction to vit D....in doing research I found if my magnesium levels were low it could cause the Vit D issues and the fatigue....so I got a low dose of magnesium which is helping me, I sleep better, and am not as tired during the day.

ASk ur Dr about re checking ur magnesium, potassium, vit D and B12 levels.....

I do think it might have something to do with CSF pressure.  I had an LP a month or so ago and my pressure was normal..but that was while laying down.  My symptoms are non-existant while laying down.  I noticed this morning when I got up I immediately felt the pressure in my head and then got tired, and I didn't feel pressure while laying down.  Normally I don't feel it that quickly...takes a couple hours or so typically.

But if that is the problem, I don't know how to alleviate it.  So...hope it's something else!

Definately check it out.  I have chronic fatigue that I was told was from my CM.  What your discribing, barring anything like Mono or something, reminds me of some troubles with csf pressure I've had.

I don't want to scare you, it might just be a rotten virus or something, just keep an eye on things.  Be careful too, you don't want to have a mishap because your fatigued.

Maybe others will have more helpful advice.  I hope this passes soon.
