Hi Everyone

My daughter is 19 and is 5 weeks post op. I just found this forum today.  Wish I would have found it sooner.  We are from Seattle but because her herniation was not quite long enough no one in Seattle would touch her. We met with Dr. Michael Seiff in Las Vegas and he agreed that she did need surgery.  We have been trying to figure out what was wrong with her for 10 years.  She spent one night in ICU and one more night in post op. Because we were from out of town we stayed 12 days at a hotel (not covered by insurance).  She is doing so much better.  Had lots of nausea and still does sometimes, headaches are there still but legs and arms feel much better and is using her cane instead of a wheelchair.  We just flew back for her five week check up and did not take her wheelchair, she walked around Hoover Dam and the Miracle Mile Mall.  As long as we stopped for short rests she was fine. She is not driving yet but is about ready to I think. As soon as she is on a lower dose of pain killers.  She takes them every 6 hours still.  She would rather have nausea than pain.  She is starting college on Jan 4th and is finally ready to begin her life.  Alot of her friends in the past have thought she was making everything up and this has been really hard. I think having a diagnosis was the best part!  She is looking forward to feeling better everyday and is quite a trooper in my opinion.  Thanks to all of you who posted here.  It has been so hard as a mom to watch my baby suffer.  I hope you all have a Wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

Adrienne

Hi Adriene and welcome! : )

I have to echo Shannon's comments as to the testing and the warning to slow down and not do too much...and driving should wait until she is off meds completely .

I am so happy ur DD is doing so much better, but may I ask Y she was in a wheelchair? Was she having drop attacks or did she have weak legs?

So glad to include u into our family here :)

Hi and welcome to the forum. So glad she is doing so well so quickly! Just tell her not to overdo it I know many on here have felt better after surgery and tried to do too much too quickly and had set backs but hopefully she wont! Also, was she tested for any of the other stuff that goes along with chiari like tethered cord, syrinx, or EDS? Just wondering. --Shannon
