Translation, please?

OK.  Has anyone had this phrase appear on their mri report?

"...obliteration of the subarachnoid space of the foramen magnum..."?

I'm hoping it's just a big-worded way of stating that there is over-crowding of the brain stem or spinal cord, and not something more sinister.

Thank you Selma & Carolyn.  I knew I could count on you!  This is for my DD.  My NS is in Germany until the 14th, and I've been worried sick about this wording.  I think I can make it until the 14th now.

Yes, basically they are saying that you have very little CSF flow coming through at the point of the foramen magnum. The subarachnoid space is an area between the different layers of the brain (there are 3) and that is the area in which they CSF flows. So yes, just a medical way of saying that you definitely have a blockage.

Hi...I think the radiologist wants to be a writer...and a bit over dramatic with the wording , and I also must agree with ur  assumption of the meaning....hopefully we r correct : ).
