MRI of the Cervical Spine

Hello, I would like help understanding my MRI reading. I have my follow-up apt. with the NS on 6-12 but would like a better understanding of what my report is saying. Any help relating the information would be helpful.

Findings: Redemonstration Chiari one malformation with the cerebellar tonsils extending at level of the posterior arch of C1. There is cervical syrinx. Cervical cord is normal in size and signal. Hemangioma is partially imaged T3 vertebral body. Remainging vertibral bodies otherwise demonstrates normal signal. Heights of the disc spaces are relatively well-maintained.

C3-C4 demonstrates mild circumferential posterior disc bulge and osteophytic (bone) spurring without significant spinal canal stenosis or neural foramina narrowing.

C4-C5 demonstrates normal disc level.

C5-C6 demonstrates minimal posterior osteophytic ridging without spinal canal stenosis or neural foramina narrowing.

C6-C7 demonstrates normal disc level.

C7-T1 demonstrates normal disc level.

I think I am understanding most of this. Not sure if the extent of the findings are minimal to where there is not much to worry about, even though I am having major pain through-out the body. I am confused if there is a stating of stenosis but is minor? Wondering more about the syrinx too? Would this determine on the sized being a factor?

Thanks for any advice. Christina

I have a hemangioma at t12, which is causing me great pain and is where my scoliosis starts, but all my drs say its no big deal and can't be the cause of my pain. What a crock of crap. Let us know what ya find out from NS. Good luck. Dana

Not being a medical professional I can not say.....but u would know if u r having issues and pain....that will tell u more then this,.,..remember it is one person's opinion.....ur Dr will review or should review the MRI films/pics to determine not just the report.

Why is the question....sometimes it depends on what the radiologist was told via the RX for the MRI to look for....so they may mention in passing what they feel they see,....it is up to ur Dr to review all of it and decide for  himself what his experience has been in what he sees.

Yes I have the disc. but do not know how to read it. There are multiple images. Thanks for commenting and what do you think about the bulging disc. with the 2 additional spurrs? The other word I looked up was "Hemangioma" and this is stating a tumor. Why wouldn't the Impression reading state further about these area's? Then the radiologist contradicts what he said about the syrnix. Do you feel I have a problem going on in my neck?

Thanks

Hi....according to what is written here, it says u do have a syrinx in the cervical area....however it does not state where or the size.

The terms used for the  condition seen by the radiologist are what he sees not how u r feeling....so do not think u should only be minimally affected.

Keep in mind, u also will need to find out if u have a syrinx in the thoracic and lumbar spine too.

DO u have the MRI to see if there is a syrinx?

Forgot to include the 2nd page: Very confusing and seams to contradict what the above findings read.

Impression:
1. Chiari 1 malformation with the cerebellar tonsil extending approx. 12 mm (previously 7 mm on 3-1-13) below the foramen magnum with peglike configuration however there is no cervical syrinx.
2. No focal disc protrusion or spinal canal stenosis

Correct me if I'm right, doesn't the above reading state "Therer is cervical syrinx"?

Thanks again!
