WOOOO HOOOO !!!!

Hi everyone. I just got home after my appointment with Dr. Walsh. HE IS SO AMAZING !! You guys are definitely right....a specialist makes all the difference in the world !!! I just can't even describe how truly awesome it feels for someone to connect it all and verify everything that you already know...but that nobody seems to acknowlege.
Dr.Walsh came in with the best attitude and the most relaxed manner. I never had to ask the questions. He immediately started to talk with me and ask if this happens when I have a ha or if ever have this or that symptom. He did a full neuro exam and made me laugh while doing it. His bedside manner is SUPERB !!! Let me iform all of you that all three of my children were there along with me and San ( my moms Bf and my bf)( more like family). The listened intently. Then he asked if we wanted to go take a look at my scans. i didn;t know at the time that he had not loooked at them yet himself. He was more than convinced that my symptoms were due to the chiari.   He sat all five of us down and explained EVERYTHING on the MRI as well as  how Chiari was found the very first time and the now new info that most doctors don't go by. I never did have to pull out myu Chiari binder and veryify my words or question him or his knowledge. He was spot on, and I even learned a few things. I do have a retro flexed odontoid, and in his words miniscule flow, which MUST be taken care of. The herniation of course is SEVERE...(I already knew that), but he said the length doesnt matter as much as the flow and width! (WOOT...I was so happy that he is one of the drs with all the info ). He knew that I was there for a second opinion and said You NEED surgery. So, I politely turned to him with tears and asked if he would please be my NS. He said absolutely if that is what you are comfortable with. So, he walked us to schedule the surgery and continued to answer all of my childrens questions until they were sure and understood, even showing them on their own heads exactly what would happen. My kids love this man and so do I. He wanted to do the surgery on the 16th but that is my wedding anniversary and my son Austin will graduate from Pre-k on that date, so he agreed to move it to the week of the 21st. He even went into depth explaining exactly how pre-op and recovery in the hospital would be, and assured me that he would be there to check on me at least twice a day. His office is in the hospital, so that is a plus. I am just so thrilled. I cant wait to call Dr. Tender's office and fire him !!!!! I have to say though without all of your support, I would not have pushed this hard to get in with him. I truly thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I am excited that in just two weeks I will be on my way to recovery!! I wish that I could explain to all of you exactly the way he described chiari to me. He put it in a way that was so easy to understand :) Ok...whew... I am whipped. Took the kiddos (all 3) to the dentist today and then to my appt. By the way, they called to cancel  my appt because he was stuck in surgery. I went anyway and luckily he was back in the office...pulled out for an emergency and then came back just to see me, and then he was off to see another brain patient in the ER !!! Yeah, I am so happy right now :-)

Ty all very much !! I feel so much better emotionally and so does my family. The kids just think he is the best.
Billy ~ he is planning to do a pfd with duraplasty, and he doesnt think he will have to remove the arch of C1, but there is a possiblity of having to. The other Dr. wanted to remove the arch of C1 and possibly C2...so this makes me very happy. Dr. Walsh is hoping that because of the severity of the way the back of my skull is formed that just removing a peice of the skull and the expansion will be enough to make room. He really does not want to have to remove any of my cervical archs. He doesnt want to create a pumpkin on a stick is what he said....:)
