The Wisconsin Chairi Center Called Me!

The nurse called me yesterday, I believe her name was Renee. She said the Dr went over the information that I had sent to them last week and they wanted to see me. She said that my 1st decompression operation was inadequate and that I have Narrow Cervical Spine problems. I have to be there Aril 5th & 6th.
Has anyone else ever been told that your surgery was inadequate? And I'm not even sure what Narrow Cervical Spine means. I am really happy to finally find out what it going on and why I am still having all this pain.
I will be sure and let all of you know how the visit went! Does anyone have any pointers for this trip that has already been there?

Thanks
Tina

Selma,

It was not bad. I had to go back the very next week to repair a leak. Both times I had to lay flat on my back for 48 hours. When we got home my husband had to help me up for about 3 days. It really was not that bad of a recovery at all, except for the leak. I layed on the couch alot and just relaxed for about 2 weeks. I have to say the worst part of it is when you get up for the first time after the 48 hours.

I had my Tethered Cord Release in April of 2010.

The tethered cord could be the reason u r having issues as it continues to pull down on the brain stem and cause a herniation to re-herniate.

Those of us with TC also have elongated brain stems too....

As for ur last surgery it may have been too conservative, but also having TC, u would be facing a possible 2nd surgery but for the TC to be released.

Make sure u have ur TC evaluated b4 another decompression as a release can allow the tonsils to retract on their own, it dose not always happen, but could resolve that issue if the TC is the problem.

Please keep us posted!!

My first operation was by Dr. Di at the Cleveland Clinic. From what the operative report says, the dura remained intact during the entire procedure. The dura was placed in Y-shape. Then it talks about the closing of the incision. I don't believe any patch was used.

I have been tested for sleep apnea and do not have that. The only thing at this time that I have been told I have is the Chiari Malformationa and Tethered Cord.

Hi...I also have cervical spinal stinosis, which  is a narrowing of the spinal cord.

It is possible like Pam mentioned that the surgery was too passive....there is a form of decompression called a bony decompression which is very conservative. Many times, another surgery is needed to help reduce the symptoms that reoccur.

Do be sure u know what other conditions u may have b4 u have another surgery....u will want to ask about issues like sleep apnea, Ehlers-Danlos,bulging disks, and a syrinx as well as scar tissue from the first surgery...and what type of patch will be used for this next one.

I wish u all the best, I too did not have my surgery at WICC and can not over info on going to that location.

Hello Tina,

Alot of people that are having alot of issues after decompression have the possibility of one of a few things going on and one of those is inadequate decompression.  Did they open the dura during your decompression?  Did they shrink the tonsils?  Do you know what kind of patch they used if they opened the dura?  I also have Cervical spondylosis which I think is common.

I havent been there so I cant tell you about the trip. But I wish you luck!  Keep us posted.
