Quick Update

Again, we want to thank everyone for the prayers, support, and priceless advice. Arming ourselves with knowledge and supporters has made this whole experience a bit more bearable.

Penny seems to be progressing with her symptoms some. Although PT says she is getting a little stronger, she feels weaker now on her left side also. Fatigue comes on quicker and is much worse. Insomnia is setting in also. The pain and mostly pressure in her head comes on more intensly. On days when she is feeling a little better and trys to do something with the kids or even goes to church she knows that she will pay the next day(s) with greater pain and pressure. It's not like she's being active. Walking to the car wears her out so we aren't doing anything that would have been physically demanding before. She speaks of pain in her back and neck and down her right arm and right side...sometimes on her left side. Hands shake some when trying to use them like writing, typing, and photography (her passion). Some muscle twitches have developed as well. Like others, the couch seems to be wear she finds any comfort at night...although she is finding very little.

On the upside, we have found a pillow that helps her a lot. She wants everyone to know about it. The Total Pillow is amazing (her words)! We got it at Walgreens but I'm sure it can be found anywhere that sells "As Seen On TV" products. It was $15 and well worth it.

We are still waiting for an appointment time with NS at John Hopkins (the NS that is refering us there for a second oppinion hadn't specified which NS he was sending us to so her info had not been sent until last Fri.). We have a appointment to see Dr. Heffez at WCC for Sept 14-15.

That's where we are for now....just waiting. Thanks again. Our prayers are with each of you.

Thanks so much for the update...I am sorry that things seem to be progressing for her. I am glad to hear of the upcoming appts though...

I agree with Selma, I know it's hard with kids (I have 3) but she should try and keep as rested as possible. I know what you mean about the pillow...I bought a memory foam one and the difference was amazing!!! It's surprising what a good pillow can do!!

My weakness and pain started on my left side and traveled all the way down to my leg..and then started to affect my right side as well. I would make sure that you mention this and all the new symptoms that she is having when you see the NS. I started to keep a running list on my computer and would add to it...then I would print a copy for my appts. Sounds crazy..but it's hard to keep track of everything after awhile!!

Good luck
Carolyn

SO glad for the update on Penny...sorry to hear things r progressing faster than u may have expected.

Tell her to listen to her body and rest as much as she needs, when she needs it...and to take smaller trips outside....some days, u just got to stay inside.

Hang in there and keep us posted, and let Penny know we r rooting for her : )

You will love Dr. Heffez. He's such a great guy. Takes the time to answer any and all questions. I had surgery with him at the end of June and he, in my eyes, is my miracle worker. If you want any other information on him. Let me know.
