yes good luck on recovering!!! I do have it when my eyes just go when they want to. And I also put my hand on the wall, and walk along. When I am driving, I don't know what lane is what, and I stopped driving at night all together because of that. It's like the lanes are merging together and yes some are, and no some aren't and I can't tell what the difference is. So I am done. It stinks. But oh well. I sometimes feel drunk. and I don't drink at all. It really scares me. I am glad I asked this question cause now I know it's not just me. There are times when my mind is like oh I can do this, and I am so excited to get up and try and then I realize that NO I can't do this. It's to heavy or my ankles can't take it. My skin is to sensitve now to even swim in the pool. So I mind tease myself all the time and that's what gets me depressed. I even get pain around the eye. The orbits they call it. if you would push lightly on my eyeball I just scream. the eyes are so very tender.
Molly, are you still suffering from the leaning or not walking straight symptom even after surgery? Is this possibly because you are still recovering from surgery?
I know once I find a 'qualified' NS and surgery is his/her suggestion, I'll ask many more questions. I'm just trying to digest all of the info I have discovered and the fact that that medical professionals are so uninformed or unconcerned (my neurologist for example).
Wishing you success with your recovery!!
Jean
i get what you are talking about. i never noticed it before i had my surgery but at 6 weeks aout it is really appearnt.

Yes, this is some I too experience most of the time. Actually at first I thought my brain was just playing tricks on me and then a co-worker asked me if I knew I was just slightly leaning to the left when I walked and that I hardly ever walk in a straight line. I made a joke about it, but started to pay closer attention. Now when at work, I walk close to a wall rub my hand along it (when questioned by co-workers I tell them I'm checking for dust). It also helps with the dizziness and keeps my employer in the dark as to how often I need this kind of assistance.
I too cannot park my van straight...I think it is, but well you know the outcome. For the longest time I thought my van was 'out of alignment'...I couldn't be wrong every time I parked it.
Like you, I am glad I found this site and all the wonderful people on it.
Hi Janie,
Nystagmus is an involuntary rhythmic shaking or wobbling of the eyes witch usually involves both eyes and is often exaggerated by looking in a particular direction. It is commonly seen in patents with vertigo/dizziness.
There are many different types of Nystagmus with downbeat the most common found in ACM type 1
VNG is a test for Nystagmus
Videonystagmography (VNG) is a test of your balance system. The tests is necessary to diagnose problems that have been determined by a history of vertigo and or dizziness with associated Nystagmus
The exam may include detailed hearing and balance tests. The object of this evaluation is to be certain that there is no serious disease, and to try to pinpoint the exact site of the problem.
ROD
Hi Rod, how are you today? I don't know if I have the Nystagmus or not. I haven't heart of it from the doctor, but it was really jumbled up during our appointment. The pictures of my brain and all were coming up all goofed up and he wanted to sit down and really study them before we went ahead and did anything else. So I don't know what it even is? I think it's the fluid buildup? no?
Hi janie!
Yes I do this too .... my family has learned not to walk on my right side because I will bump into you and not mean to or even realize I was doing it! I also bump into door frames a lot!
Shadows are a big problem for me! especially at night! It just goes with the territory! HaHa
Glad you found this community its great!
Shannon
Hi Janie,
Have you got Nystagmus?
rod
wow...amazing....I have everything you all are talking about. I second guess myself because sometimes the movement of something doesn't seem real..some days I feel like I am living in a tv or something, and things may be real slow, and sometimes stuff flies past my head. I don't remember things hardly anymore, and I have to write down my meds to make sure I didn't over take them. I do park at angle's..thought it was because I was left handed..guess not. Yeah the doctor had me shut my eyes and I almost fell over, and he did the eye and follow the pen and I almost threw up..
I am so glad I found you all...thanks
janie...
Hello,.
I have the same problem as well - do you park at an angle just a little to the left or the right?
I do this and it looks perfect to me when I park. When I get out I am just a little crocked
just enough to notice.

hi Jane and welcome,
I can identify with this, at a recent app my doc had me march on the spot with my eyes closed, when I opened my eyes after about a minute or so I had turned more than 90 degrees without knowing I was turning.
HI and welcome to the Chiari forum.
Yes...that is a problem for many of us...ever try walking in a room with a black and white checkerboard floor.....it'll drive u mad.
Yeah, my eyes were much worse prior to surgery....getting better now.
The inbalance I had was one reason I changed my position with my company.....I was a Bridal Consultant for a retail store doing registries.....but it wasn't a good place to have my desk in the middle of the china and crystal dept.......
