YAY I'm going to see Dr. Heffez

I sent my records to Dr. Heffez about a month ago and just got the call yesterday saying he will see me.  It's all scheduled for the end of July.  I'm so happy!!  Hopefully he can give me some answers and help me out.  Any advice from those of you who have seen him?

Unfortunately my insurance won't cover the flight & hotel stay unless my current neurologist will sign a paper saying he cannot help me...not likely to happen.  I have a good job, so I would feel kind of bad reaching out to charitable organizations when other people need more help than I do, but the cost of 2 roundtrip tickets + hotel is still going to hurt.  Any money saving tips for this kind of situation?

Hi, I know that the Catholic Home which is on the same block as Columbia/St.Mary's rents out rooms for about $60. a night for those with family in the hospital.  Kathy's House is about 20 minutes away.  Dr. Heffez is very nice, and he recommends you bring a taperecorder and to write a list of questions.  I work at the hospital.  If you have any questions about Milwaukee, let me know.  I can inquire with our Social Worker about the criteria for staying at the Catholic Home.  It would be very convenient and save you money on a taxi to and from other accommodations if you qualify.  Anyway,  Dr. Heffez does about 100 Chiari surgeries a year, so he has alot of experience.  I hope he can help you.  Take care.

I will call my neuro tomorrow.  Can't hurt to ask.  The visit to Dr. Heffez conflicts with my neuro appt so I have to call and move it anyway.

How long I'm staying depends entirely on the cost.  It probably evens out though...one more night at a hotel probably cancels out the flight savings of waiting a day.  The appointments & testing are scheduled for a Wednesday so ideally I would fly out Tues and fly back Thurs.
