Im25 and just now having symptoms. ...I read somewhere that trauma to your body came trigger chiari. I had a baby dec 2013 and about 8 weeks later I had a pulmonary embolism (blood clots in lungs) and after all that is when my symptoms started around may. I didn't have any issues while pregnant. I had a mri today of neck and spine with and without contrast and will be following up with neorolagist. My symptoms haven't been to bad lately ive been trying to avoid the things that may trigger my arm pain and numbness. Ive just been having headaches and my vision seems to be getting worse everything is very blurry.
You may have always had them...but not as intense...we get use to symptoms bcuz we always have them.....and consider how we feel to be "normal"....our normal...or we consider they are from over doing it, a flu...etc.....
But a cough, sneeze,or a ride in a car on a bumpy road or stress that can trigger symptoms to flare.....
I know I always had symptoms....and they cycle...so it can make it hard to DX and even remember some symptoms from the last flare as they can be all new with each cycle....
I know I feel like I didn't ask enough questions. I am now only comfortable going to work (3 minutes from home) and staying home or if my husband is driving then I'm good. I get such anxiety going to store or even picking up food at drive thru its gotten so bad I wonder if it will ever get better. Those are the times I get anxious. But Selma I always wonder why at this point in my life I developed symptoms.
My issues were always on my left....my Dr said that side was more affected by the CSF obstruction,.....weird....I had issues holding a few papers in my hand...it would cramp....to a point I would lose my gripe as well.....I no longer drive....so....that is not a current issue...but I had many when I was driving,
Mine is usually always right side also I havev10mm. Its so bad I drop things and cant grasp or open things. Driving for awhile also bothers me.
Hi....this is a common issue for all with Chiari....and trying to pinpoint why a symptom or group of symptoms occur and not always happen....for various reasons......
The best you can do is keep a journal to see if there is a common thread....raised your arms over shoulder height....had a stressful day....lifted something weighting___?....you get the idea....
@VMZ- I really despise Dr that say borderline or mild Chiari...as the length of herniation is no measure for how you and your health are being affected and the term borderline minimizes what you experience... and how you feel in regard to reporting symptoms to your Dr....My herniations measured 4.. and 6 mm...and was in no way borderline...in fact...I want these Drs to explain how a skull malformation can be borderline....either it is malformed or not!!
Yes I do and it always happens when I'm driving my arm shoulder and hand on the right side. I consider my right side my weak side. I have no idea what triggers it except for driving and using my right leg for acceleration and braking. I have a 6mm herniation supposedly "borderline chiari malformation"
