how bad does it have to get?

The doctors tell me my chiari isn't bad enough to operate,it is about a 5 " ,my symptoms are 24 hour headaches,right side numbness sometimes,tingling face,right groin pain,vertigo,severe migraines where i cant walk,or talk.changes in weather hurt me bad,no short term memory hardly,and i've probably forgotten something,what are the symptoms for a 7 or a 8",i can't imagine it getting much worse,it's hard enough now.what will it take for the dr to say ,ok we'll fix it now? if they had to live like this everyday,they would want it fixed now!

I had quite a few mri's at kings daughters,with dye and without,not sure what cine is?
but they told me last june there was no spinal fluid flow blockages then.

Have u had a CINE MRI to find out?...there is a dr in TN......not sure how far u can travel to get to a dr.

THANKS selmaS,THE DR'S AROUND HERE ARE CRAZY,SO I FIGURED I WOULD TRY TO FIND OUT MORE FACTS ON MY OWN.I DON'T THINK THERE IS A BLOCKAGE,WHEN I BEND OVER TO SWEEP OR MOP,I GET REAL SHORT OF BREATH,SO I FIGURE IT MUST CUT OFF CIRCULATION THEN BUT I JUST GET SO TIRED OF BEING SICK AND TIRED.

Hi, the size of herniation does not determine symptoms or if u need surgery......it sounds u r not dealing with chiari specialists and y r u being given misinformation.

Some drs say u need a 5 mm herniation to even be considered chiari when in fact it is not the herniation at all...but the mis shaped skull that causes the herniation.

U need to find out if u have a CSF blockage and overcrowding that along with symptoms will determine who is a surgical candidate or not.

I had surgery with a 4mm and a 6 mm herniation.....some have had less with more symptoms much more severe than mine and then there r those with a much larger herniation with no symptoms at all.
