Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

First, Chiari is the malformation of the skull....the cerebral tonsils herniate as a result HOWEVER many Drs only look at the herniation to determine Chiari....some say at 5mm's it is...BUT it can be low lying tonsils as a result of an injury....but regardless if it is either it is treated the same, the symptoms are the same.

May I ask what symptoms your son is having that lead to the MRI?

sorry i only just found this, he started having head aches around 4 months ago, but for the past month it is constant day and night, they are getting stronger over the weeks, when i was preggs he had cysts in the brain so i thought they had come back, scan never found them, his pain is always at the top of his head, hurts more on moving around, he has had problem with pain in one eye but that has stopped, he twitches his eyes alot, not sleeping well as the pain wakes him up, he gets dizzy some times when walking around,he walks around in just shorts with his window open saying hes hot! when its cold
oh yes he has had neck pain for around 6 days too

Do you know what type of cysts he had on the brain and what was done to remove them?

Do you have names of true Chiari specialists?

i dont know what the names of the cysts was i have asked for them today though, i do know they was not removed at around 10-14 weeks after weekly check ups the doc said iv never seen this before but they have disappeared!, i also remember when i was preggs they told me as well as other illnesses that he had spina bifida which he did not! , i dont have any names of specialists, i know the neurology said he has chiari but they are only 5mm so will not be the cause of his problems!!!

There are not too many Drs well informed and or experienced with Chiari and the Dr that said spina bifida was half right since they are related conditions and in the same family. But SB refers to an opening to the spine that does not close BUT it is possible for it to close and still have SB .

The length of herniation is not what causes the problems....and the herniation's can be less then 5mm's and cause a lot of symptoms....so do find a true Chiari specialist to help you with his MRI''s and other tests.

It is possible to have a syrinx a cyst that fills with CSF fluid due to an obstruction to CSF flow....and they can resolve on their own......

It is possible he is having vertigo...that is when you can have the sensation of everything around you moving....ask him if that is how it feels....

Good...who do you have in mind for the 2nd opinion??

his answer to vertigo was 'erh yea i guess so' what does this lot mean, his doc said none of these things are from chiari! she wants to see him as she thinks he my have adhd or autism, i keep thinking his pain is on the top of his head not the back like everyone elses he's is also 24/7, i dont know which doc it will be i can not find a specialist round here
had to call 999 last night his pain went over the scale his heart was137 his body was having spasms all night they rushed him to hospital, 2 lots of morphine done a ct scan and said its fine there is no blood! took his bloods and said he does not have an infection, his heart went down  but pain stayed very high, they kept him in because he was very confused for a while then they just sent him home

It is hard to say what will work until you know what all he is being affected by......

I do not blame him for being fed up...I know how frustrating it can be....

Wish I had more info for you.

Only a hand full with Chiari have tried it with mixed results....as I say it really depends on ALL  other related conditions.

Wish I had more positive input.
