chiari and sleep

so the other day at pt my mom was talking to a nurse and she has chairi also. And my mom was asking her y I have so much trouble sleeping and y I take so much naps and the nurse explained that people with chiari never get into REM sleep so they will always needs more sleep than the avaerage person. Just thought It was interesting so I decided to share it!

There is one made for Chiarians as it has a well to help hold the head post op.....I found it to be pricey....and I did not want to order a pillow on line, I like to feel them b4 I buy one..

U do not need a special pillow just one that helps u be comfortable.....

I have a small lumbar Homedics pillow that I used to sleep on...I did not use it for my lumbar....it is a memory foam and was perfect size for me to use post op and not too pricey....

Sleeping positions are important....we need to try to not draw our chin into our chest as that position can cause everything in the neck to get tighter and cause more HA's...just as when we are upright and look down, it creates a blockage....so that is why it is not a comfortable position.

Hi...since u had a HA after ur nap, take a look at the position u sleep in...it can be attributed to the way ur neck is or the pillow u use...so do try a diff pillow or sleep position.

Hope that helps

That really makes the most sense of anything I've ever heard! When I do sleep it's like run me over with a bulldozer and you won't wake me up. Other times I sleep so lightly the cat walking in the other room wakes me up, that is when I sleep at all. Other times it'll be days before sleep comes.

Thanks for sharing that Molly. Ditto what selma said, did this help your mother?

Thanks for sharing that Molly, I find I go for months where I cant sleep, I could go to bed feeling exhausted, I drift off but dont go into a deep sleep and the slightest thing will wake me.Other times I sleep for hours and hours, get up and feel exhausted. Up until a few years ago I was a good sleeper. When I am exhausted it makes my dizziness and other symptoms much worse.
