I am in Tears!! My primary doctor just called

I need a new doctor to help me manage my pain until surgery. I don't know what I am going to do now!! I am crying my head off right now and I am just shocked. Dr. Scoggin's nurse just called out of the blue and said he wanted Dr. Rosner to start prescribing my meds after surgery! What did I do?

I am so upset, he obviously doesn't believe I am in pain! What am I supposed to do for pain?! I have had 3 doctors confirm my cts and that they can't believe I am not in worse condition than I already am and that they know why I get such horrific headaches. Yet, my family doctor will not prescribe my vicodin or any other med now. I guess it is to the ER for now on I mean obviously I need it for REAL PAIN, I am not an addict. Some people need to be on them for years or even more because of conditions...yet, he is being a jerk!!!

He wasn't going to until now they are now saying until surgery but any day after, they will not. It is like he must not think I will have pain from surgery or something.  It makes no sense at all. Never have I abused my medication, or abused him writing them from me. If anything I probably have them written less than anyone else here in town or any of his patients. He is just stubborn enough to not write them for refills and I have to call in every single week for them. Makes no sense again, as this medication can be written for refills...if he didn't do that then it wouldn't look like I was a pain in the butt calling in.

Make sure you fully understand your pcp's thinking...maybe this isn't a bad thing.  Maybe they acknowledge that you need a specialist (Dr. R) and are deferring to him because that is in your best interest.  If getting prescriptions from Dr. R is a problem, maybe you need to schedule an appt with your pcp and come up with a plan of action.

Your initial post also makes it sound like your pcp will continue to give you meds until surgery, right?  My pcp doesn't like to give me meds that he does not specialize in, but is more than happy to help me get to the right dr to get those meds..and happy to do something to hold me over until then.

I know the feeling of not knowing what dr to call or go to, but if you are in that much pain.  (I completely understand)  I called my PCP and they called in a pain med for me until I could go to see the NS.  It's what they call process.  When your in pain no one can understand.  I ended up going to a pain clinic which has helped me so much.  For now I would call you PCP and tell them you can't take the pain anymoe.  A lot of times they do understand.  Explain to them you can't afford running to the ER all the time.  Wish you luck.  Just as I alway's say. Keep being persistant.  Having someone go with you also help's because they can back you up on how much pain you are in.  I feel so bad for you.  As for me they actually have me on a pain patch so I don't need to take pain med's all the time and I only have to change the patch every 3 day's.  It's helped so much to moderate the pain.  Hope you get some relief.

My neuro can't call it in and won't until after surgery and not for long. I just have the surgeon to go to. The neuro I saw was just a one time thing. He too is out of state, as well as Dr. R.

I just went to a Dr. Visit recently, and he acted okay about everything. This is the kicker: Once he found out when and that I was having surgery, is when he decided to stop prescribing for me. It makes no sense at all! I called Dr. R's office in tears and they were supposed to call today, but maybe they didn't remember they were only working a half day today.

My friend, said that with me having surgery and stuff, and knowing I have a real condition, they cannot just stop me cold turkey. Esp since there can be serious withdraw effects. I have never experience this before, but evidently there is and she said this is with everyone who is used to taking vicodin. Plus then there is my other meds: treximet, toprol, and stuff.

I am working to find a neurologist also based on others posts.  Do you have a neurologist to tranisition too now that neurosurgeon has done his part?  It sounds like it is time for some new Drs...:(  sorry  Also I recently called my neurosurgeon because my PCP was not comfortable with a prescription that my neuro thought might help me.  My neurosurgeon called it in from out of state.  Will your NS call it in until you can get help?
