excessive sweating??

As most of you know, I had my surgery on 3/6 and am doing ok..but, my question is about my son. I know that in some cases CM can be passed on to your children.  My 18 yr old has an interview for a job that requires him to wear a suit and he is so scared to go because he sweats so much. He has always been that way but I never thought a whole lot about it. Just thought he was a teenage boy. But, I looked up why some ppl sweat too much and it said alot of diff things but included in the list was brain malformations and spinal disorders. It just got me to thinking, could he possibly have CM?? So, if this has been a problem for anyone else I would appreciate if you could comment. Im probably just worrying for nothing, but he was diag with ADHD when he was 5 and has always had a very difficult time in school with concentration and fitting in. I never agreed that he had that but put him on the meds for it for several yrs. I kept telling my DH that there is something else wrong, it is not ADHD. He finally refused to take the meds anymore in the 8th grade. We really never could tell a diff in him except that he never had an appetite until after he got off the meds. Now he is 5'7 and 200lbs so I would think the meds did nothing but harm him. I guess I should take him to our pcp and start from there but I don't think they will check him just because he sweats too much..I mean, he can get a shower and before he has all of his clothes on, he is sweating all over. It can't be because he is over weght because he did it even when he was really skinny. What do you guys think??? I appreciate any input at this point. I just hate for him to have to go thru this for the rest of his life.   :(((

You are nit alone I have never been able to regulate my body temp. I sweat when cccold and yes goosebumps too.  My husband always jokes that my thermostat is broken and when I got dx I went your right! My son is 9 and sweats like me all the time and especially at night for both of us...he has auditory processing disorder but no other symptoms.

Dr. Rosner asked me if I sweated a lot; I said no, I hardly sweat at all & become very heat intolerant.  Apparently both signs are red flags to him.
Does everyone know that duke is studying the genetics of chiari?

Post op care is non existent...and u r so right, they have no idea what recovery is like...and how long it may be.

I know it is frustrating not to do certain things...but resist as it can cause a set back...take ur time and wear blinders : )

Good luck with ur DS, mayb try a diff antiperspirant??

Thanks all for your input! He refuses to get checked for it and he is 18, so I can't make him all I can do is try to talk him into it. Maybe beg a little..lol But, I think the embarrassment alone will get him to get checked out to see why he sweats so much.  Btw.. I am doing well after surgery, but getting real tired of not being able to do the things I want to do!! You all have been there, I don't think the docs really have any idea how painful this surgery is and how long the recovery is. It is a very rough road that you really can't prepare yourself for. I am just soooo thankful I made it thru this far and hope and pray it won't be much longer before I can get back to doing everday things w/o pain. You guys have been great thru my whole experience w CM. I wish all of you a wonderful, pain free day!!

Nice to know im not alone. I sweat like crazy, its embarrasing, yes selma even when im cold and have the goosebumps im sweating. When i show people they are in aww. Dont hurt to get him checked for chiari insted of wondering. Hopefully its just a sweating issue and nothing more. I am having my son checked. Hes been gettin lots of debilitating headaches. Im scared to find out. I told him hes being checked for migraine. Dont wanna upset hom. I am glad to hear you are well post op. Keep healing

Hello :-) They definitely should see him for sweating, as that alone could be a symptom of many different things.  There are also medications and things the PCP can do if it turns out it is "just" sweating.  Plus, while he is there, like selmaS said, it wouldn't hurt to check on the chiari aspect...I hope everything gets helped, and good luck on the job interview! :-)

Hi...it will always make u wonder, so get him tested and find out....it could be chiari related and it may have nothing what so ever to do with it....

That said, we can guess all we like it still doesn't answer the question,

I know I had an issue of no sweating b4 surgery...post op I do sweat even when I am cold,,which is an odd sensation....I was told some of my temp regulations had to do with tethered cord....

Do have he checked so u all know, and so let us know what u find out.
