lost of earing

I'm experiencing for the last week a lost of earing in my left ear! It's prety bad, if I wear an earing plug in my left ear it feel like my two ear are a the same level, but as soon I remove the plug I notice the difference. It doesn't hurt, it's not infected, sound do no sound like underwater. It's like the volume had been tuned down in my ear. Anyone ever experience this before? Should I TRY to have an appointment with my doctor or an ORL?

Thanks,     Drew

I have a severe hearing loss in my left ear....plus tinnitus and mild loss in my right ear.  I now have a hearing aide in my left ear which helps tremendously.  I am waiting to see how I heal from surgery (5 wks post op) and am hoping that the tinnitus settles down.  Dr. Francomano feels my hearing loss may be due to an underlying connective tissue disorder called Stickler's Syndrome.  However, she also feels that some of the loss could be due to the Chiari (as does TCI).  My main concerns heading into surgery were the HAs and sleep disturbance....and so far, 5 weeks out, those 2 things have been addressed.  It would be wonderful to get some relief from the tinnitus, but I'm not counting on that.  I've learned to "ignore" it.  There's also some great "White noise" CDs of nature sounds that help, too.  Have you gone to an ENT to rule out any other possible issues?

I know how u feel needing to vent.....some people feel they know all bcuz they happen to have jobs in the medical profession, but those that listen to their patients know more then those that can recite chapter and verse from all medical journals......

It feel like the volume was down in that ear. I'm trying to get an appointment with my doctor, but I think she told me she was going on vacation for the last two week of jully. I saw my NS at the end of june. And I don't want to go to the ER, it does't hurt. I don't want to go to the after hours out clinic either, because I have to argue with them everytime! they keep putting down on my files that I have budd chiari, and when I correct them they look at me, and ask who told me that like if I was crazy and don't correct it. (sory need to rent about these persons)

I noticed in the past 6 months that I have a hard time hearing, my DH say's it is selective hearing LOL...but I go to NS Thurs and have this on my list because I also am experiencing tinnitis in my left ear and it is so nerve racking.  I found after surgery I am more sensitive to noise.  It wouldn't hurt to call the Dr to get this checked out.  I hope my NS has a lot of time for me Thurs because I have a list LOL..Hope tomorrow is a better day.
