sleep/head numbness

I have suffered from headaches of varying degrees, well, as long as I can remember. I'm 28 now. I had a neurologist that just kept upping my topamax, even after a brain mri. Went to a new neurologist and she looked at the mri and said my brain sits lower in my skull then normal and ordered a neck mri of some kind. i find out what she has to say in december. she also took me off all the meds the other doctor had me on..

headaches have improved since coming off previous medications. however, neck pain is still persistant and sleep feels impossible. i can't lay on my back because my head literally falls asleep. i've tried everything in the past year to train myself to not sleep on my back, but no matter what, I end up there.

The pain ALWAYS starts in the neck/base of the skull...if this lasts to long THEN i start getting headaches.

My question is, does anyone else experience their head falling asleep? people think i'm crazy.

thanks for replying! i'm hoping when I see my doc in dec that she knows what to do next. i had to wait almost 7 months to see her in the first place because they are SUPPOSED to be the best neurologists around so i'm hoping.

i'm just glad the numbness is somewhat normal. it freaks me out, the headaches don't so much. they are just something i've learned to deal with.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Many of us do have insomnia...sleep is very elusive....even on painless or less pain evenings....

where u have pain is typical for Chiari, and I would hope ur Dr does more testing to look for related conditions....

Were u ever in a MVA, had a fall or injury to the back of ur head?

The numbness is not u alone, even tinglings like chills would rush over just one side of my scalp....

U r not alone at all in how u feel...

Please keep us posted as the the findings after u see the Dr.
