Thanks, I'm just hoping someone has maybe gone through what we have been through. After her 1st surgery she started having really bad headaches and we did another MRI and there was fluid build up in the inside of her cerebellum which wasn't there before the 1st surgery and the Dr. said he has never seen this before and put her MRI films online for other Neurosurgeon's to look at to see if anyone else has ever seen this which no one had. They had to go back in and that time they used her own tissue instead of the patch. That was May of 2003 and she just had her 3rd one Oct. 31 2012 and when she woke up in recovery she couldn't feel her right arm and hand. She was't even able to control it and the Dr. once again has never had this happen and asked other Dr's and no one has seen this. He seems to think over time it will get better and the control has gotten better but still has no feeling.I just wish I had some answers
Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.
We all hope it is a once and done thing, but many times when there is scar tissue and other post op issues u have to wonder y....and many times it could be a related Chiari condition that was not addressed or known.
Has ur DD been evaluated for a syrinx in all areas of her spine, tethered cord, ICP, POTS, ehlers-danlos*, sleep apnea....?
Of the ones I mentioned EDS* is the more likely culprit for scar tissue.
None of us know how our bodies will respond to surgery, but knowing ne and all related issues can help.
Hopefully not. But any with surgery done can form this over time. I'm sorry I don't have a better answer sweetie. But none of us knows what the future holds for us with chiari. We live in the moment and play the wait and see game. I'm so sorry for your sweet daughter. It will hopefully get better frim here. I had 2 surgeries for the first was not done fully. I will pray she's on her way to recovering healthy. Hugs, Dana
