Molly..I hope that they will figure it out soon!! With the swelling that you describe, it does sound like the leak is a good possibility of why you are in so much pain. So, I guess it's a good/bad thing...it is awful to have but at least they may be something they can fix to give you relief. I pray they will fix it and that you will finally feel better:)

It's so funny, I was told about the meditation thing too from my rehab doctor. I told her I was willing to give anything a go!!! Anything that is not a pill is what I want but I am also on the other end where I have had the surgery and I feel like I SHOULD be progressing towards not needing medication. However, I have moments where I think that just might not be realistic. I will always keep trying to find other alternatives though. Plus, I agree, the days I am down and feel miserable, I do feel worse b/c I am thinking about it so much.

Jpurple..I am with you, I am seriously starting to worry about my kidneys and stomach at the rate I take the over the counter stuff. But for now, I figure it's better that narcotics if I can get away with it.

It is so sad that we all have to deal with chronic pain and find it such a struggle to get help with it..

Why do they take us off of pain meds?  Do they think we are lying??  I'm going thru the same thing right now and have an appoint with rheum in 1 week and I hope he can help me, my last chance for relief.  I take so much ibuprofen and tylenol its a joke.

Another thing,, if the case is that you have run out before refill, when you run out of pills, you ARE going to hurt worse, for one you have no pain control, and two your body is basically fighting you for taking away it's medicine. Your pain receptors are very raw, and your body has gotten so used to having the artificial pain relief that it isn't making its own pain releif anymore. So, when you know you are getting close to running out and it is not even close to your refill time, you have to make yourself cut back. It's hard, but at least you will have SOMETHING in your system untill refill. It is far better to take one pill than to not have any pills. You won't get the same effect as whatever your normal dosage is, but at least you are not running on nothing, which we both know is horrible.  If the case is that they have completely taken you off of pills, there is nothing you can do but find another doctor (which really isn't going to get you anywhere because they will see your records) or try what I said above. Not trying to sound like a know it all, but just been there before LOL

I know it ***** to hear meditaton, when all you want is a pain pill, but it does take care of some of the pain. Maybe not all of it, and it gets annoying when a doctor is like "try meditaion, try breathing, blah blah blah. I know. But think of it this way. You brain tells you that you are having pain. So why not make your brain tell itself it's not in any pain? There was a time I had a nerve exposed in my tooth, and it was midnight, and at the time I did not want to take any pain pills. So, I imagined myself "pushing" the pain down. Every time it throbbed, I imagined the pain going into itself. It was hurting so bad my heart was racing and I was shaking like I was standing in ice cold water naked. But eventually, I could at least tolerate the pain, and on the flip side, working that hard at it is mentally exausting, so you fall asleep.
Another thing is that when all you think about is how bad it hurts, it going to hurt. I know it's hard to not think about it, but if you can get your brain involved with something else it tends to "forget" the pain.  I hope it works and you can feel at least a little better.

thanks guys. My mom talked to dr h today and he sugested meditation for the pain. Not getting anywhere with him! Yea the MRI on Monday is to look at my leak and from there decide if surgery is necasary. I'm getting lots of swelling to the back of my head so my guess is it's still there.

It's to see if the leak has healed if I'm not mistaken.  If not then she will go have it repaired.then,God willing she will be pain free!

Oh Molly...I am so sorry that you are still feeling so awful..I wish that you were seeing some more positive results!!

Have you tried decongestants (like for sinus issues)? When my HA's were bad I would combine those with tylenol and advil and sometimes it would take it down a little. But then, I guess that would be up to what other meds you are on and whether you are allowed to take decongestants or not.

For the MRI I heard mentioned on Monday, is that a routine follow up or are they taking another look b/c of all the pain you've had?
Either way, please let us know what you find!

Take care xxx

Go to the Dr and get pain meds. That's probably your only option. Im "lucky" that I have an arsenal of pain meds due to my inflammatory arthritis. I can take a mega-dose of percoset and it'll take the edge off a bit. It's not a whole lot of relief, but it helps. What ***** is when the pressure is so bad that my trigeminal nerves and the nerves behind my ears are affected. Opiates won't touch nerve pain. The stabbing sensations are unreal!
