chiari breathing problems muscel weakness headace

I am diagnosed with chiari type 1. Herniation of tonsil on right side are are 6 - 7 mm. My symptoms are quite cyclic. I can almost tell by the clock when they will occur. My days goes like this: always very dizzy in the morning. I wake up with breathing problems. It feels like breathing in water. After that a pressure like headace builds up. When the headace reaches a top and unloosen, my hole body is muscelweak for about 30 min to one our. After that the pressure builds up again. Does anyone have the similar breathing problems. I am very thankful for answers.

I had problems with vision, balance, swallowing, fatigue, nausea, digestion, breathing, cognition, tinnitus, pain, etc. etc.
I'm 6 mo post op, and I would say that everything has improved.  Some symptoms have disappeared completely, some occur only occasionally, and some have been recurrent, like nausea or pain, but still improved.

It may get deleted, because it's an ad, but look up transcranial magnetic stimulation.

I'm not sure. I haven't heard anything about either. I'll have to look into some. Thanks!

I know that they are experimenting w/MRIs to be used therapeutically, not just diagnostically, so maybe that's in store for us.

I haven't kept up with it, but isn't magnetism being used to treat depression?  Seems like I saw an ad for it at this site.

Great response. If only we could turn ourselves off and on again to reset our systems like a computer, it would make life so much easier.

Thanks for your answer. I have to kinds of breathing problems. One is related to stifness in chest muscel. The other witch i described seems to come from weakness in the same group of muscel. I have also observed that it sometimes feels like my lungs are filled up with some kind of stuff (cotton). It is not painful. A doctor told me that this was caused by anxiety. I did not feel anxiety. i absolutley agree with you that it is a missing link between the symphatetic and the parasymphatetic system. Can you tell me a little bit about your symptoms before and after decompression?

For some of us, our sympathetic & parasympathetic systems are not on speaking terms.  Our digestion, breathing, heartbeat should all be automatic; but the Chiari screws the automatic system up!
Think of a computer glitch, except that we cant turn ourselves off & then on again.

I don't have the same breathing symptoms on a regular basis, BUT I do have the same problem with "cycles" I also wake up with my head POUNDING, and it is the worst pressure and pain, most days it dissipates throughout the course of the day and then at 7.00, It starts the cycle all over again. It's like there is a clock in my head that knows when it is time to flare up. I have had breathing problems, but only at night and not on a regular basis...

I can relate to the breathing problem--i think it's dysautonomia--instead of being automatic, I have to concentrate on breathing.  I'm 6 mo. post op, this symptom has improved, but I'll have a sleep study done eventually.
