5 year olds like games tell him he must count while chewing and each bite mus be chewed until he counts to 20 silently in his head
He is still in the trainable stage at age 5 - just praise him and keep reminding- "eating slow is more healthy for our bodies"- don't NAG but say it once during meal time- preferably at the beginning of the meal- It will most likely not make him overweight-
are there any anxiety issues elsewhere in his life? Sounds a little bit like anxiety
Cut his food up in smaller pieces, if he is hungry he will eat faster, you could also put some out then put more when he has finished the first lot so he has a little rest in between , lots of children gobble their food I dont know of any effects from it unless he gets a belly ache, have you asked him why he eats it so fast?
or unlike the advice given here most -not to give the child snacks in between-
maybe he is so hungry he is eating fast- then some snacking in between WILL help-
What seems to be the real issue? Is he wanting to get back to playing or ????
Is he choking?
Are you afraid he will (what)? what problems in the days to come?
