Son say he hears voices

My eight year old son says he hears voices at night. He says that it happens when he closes his eyes and then people began to speak to him. As a result of this issue he refuses to go to sleep. This has been happening for the past few years. I have explained to him that he might be dreaming but he is convinced that the voices are real and vary in age and gender. His lack of sleep has an impact on his daily routine. I don't know how to help him. What should I do?

If it release's the childs stress, what is the harm. This gives the child away to comtrol the voices.

I would recommend a therapist as well.  He is young for the onset of schizophrenia but if the voices disturb him, it might be worth talking to someone about them.  It really is not true that by seeing a therapist or doctor you are instantly put on medication.  Doctors take things on a case by case basis.  I do wish you luck and know that sometimes with children, it is hard to know exactly what is going on.  Sad to say but it is hard to tell if it is a psychiatric condition or a vivid imagination.  So, maybe an expert could help give you some clarity.  good luck and peace

Why do so many people reccomend a priest? If you do not BELIEVE then nothing that they do will help. Medication and therapy can do wonders. I know devout Catholics that have mutulated themselves in the name of religion... food for thought

No he doesnt need a therapist theyre just going to put him on drugs he doesnt need. My husband used to hear and see ghosts and demons along with his aunt untill they got saved and accepted Jesus Christ as theyre Lord and savior. Take him to a pastor not a therapist. Tell him when they start talking to him DO NOT talk back because then theyre able to interact with him back. Tell him to start praying and calling Jesus' name and DEMANDING to be left alone in His name. Drugs wont help him besides make him think hes crazy take him to a pastor asap

You might want to take him to a therapist to make sure that there is nothing wrong with him.  It is possible that he might have schizophrenia.  I am not trying to scare you I am just trying to give you suggestions.
