Child Throws Up at school when works himself up

My son has always been a shy kid and reserved. He started Kindergarten Monday and  Tuesday I received a call from the nurse saying my son threw up in class. He gets so anxious or worked up that he will throw up. What can I do so this isn't a everyday occurence? School policy is that no matter what you have to pick your kid up.

Yes, it was just his nerves!!!! He is doing great.. thanks for the postive feedback.... I was worried at first, but I'm sure glad he got past that problem.

court1980 - vomiting in public situations is one of the signs of severe anxiety.  You mentioned that your son was "shy" - another "sign" of anxiety.  As always, your first step is to contact your family doctor re advice.  You might wish to educate yourself on anxiety by googling terms such as "anxiety and school" or "behaviors of anxiety in children" or "anxiety disorders in children" or similar words/phrases.

If your family doctor is unable to help you, the ask for a referral to a medical mental health specialist with experience in anxiety issues as a child neurologist or child psychiatrist.  Anxiety is a mental, emotional and physical disorder - very common - but with proper treatment, the prognosis is excellent.  It does appear that your son will require "help" in learning how to manage and cope with his fears/anxieties.  All the best .....

I think he needs to see a counselor,  and you need to have a close communication with the teacher and principal.  If he's vomiting within the classroom,  it needs to be addressed.

I don't think schools should have to deal with a child who vomits in the classroom - that's on the parents and the family to correct.
