My 26 month old boy doesn't make eye contact

I have a 4 year old girl and a 26 month old boy. We've had no health issues with my son except colds and 2 ear infections.  I've had a few people ask me if I called Birth to Three because he doesn't say much around others.  I was not concerned because he talks fine at home and knows well over 50+ word, including 2-3 word phrases.  He just doesn't talk in front of others- he goes to daycare for 4 hours a day.  He is always with me and his grandmother.
He doesn't acknowledge anyone and seems to ignore them. He doesn't make eye contact with the daycare mom (he's only been there for 5 or 6 times so far- once a week).  Now that it was brought to my attention, I've been more aware of it.  When I call him, he looks but when I am getting him to ask for something - he won't look at me.
I am trying to get him to ask for things, rather than just give it to him. I think I've been babying him for quite some time now and need to make him ask for it.  He also rolls his eyes in the back of his head sometimes, which I thought was funny/cute but now am a bit nervous.  I plan on calling Birth to Three to put me at ease but am concerned because the eye contact and lack of interaction with others (except his mom, dad, sister, dog and grandmother) concerns me a bit.  He knows what is going on...knows to set the table, get his shoes, goes on the potty (doesn't go pee yet but sits there when I say 'pee pee on the potty'- )
Do you think this is a problem I should worry about?  I am working with him more, not handing him the "milk" unless he says it (it breaks my heart to see him cry and have a fit).

Thank You.

I think you should call birth to three as you will feel better and its always good to get some input .Rereading your original post he still doesnt sound to be anything other than a late talker and not so late,it wouldnt hurt for you to push him a little bit and kind of Tutor him offering and expressing words, again ask your Doctor if he needs to refer you to a speech therapist,he may say its too early. Till you have done that dont discuss it  with the daycare or anyone ,say you are taking advise and leave it., you'll only continue to feel anxious, which is pretty normal for a caring Mom.

I think you're right and thanks.  It's just been on my mind and can't get it off my mind.  I've been doing Autism Searches on the internet..and driving myself crazy.
I am going to call either Birth to Three (would put me at ease that they say..he's fine and help me with techniques to help his eye contact and socialization) or his dr.

thanks again, I am feeling better already.,

Sounds like a few people have  been making you anxious about your son, ,Always if you are concerned go and ask you paediatrician, they will send him for further tests if need be.However you do say he interacts with ...Mom, Dad, sister, Dog, and Grandma,  I think thats pretty good ,the eye rolling possibly has been taught him like tongue pulling that older kids like to teach younger ones to do!He is too young for the Potty yet, but you could let him sit on it.He sounds pretty normal to me and I think once you get it sorted in your own mind you will see that.By the way he doesnt acknowledge others as he hasnt known them for long, Have faith in your own gut feelings not the Negative thoughts of others, who think they know better.
