I need help potty training my 3 year old boy!!!

My son turned 3 a week ago and I or we have started potty training him 4 days ago. A little history his father and I are divorced and he visits him every other weekend and we have the basic same ideas to get him potty trained except I feel that pull ups are appropiate for bed time and underwear the rest of the day.... Anyway I am having a very hard time motivating him to get on the toilet. Once he actually gets on there he will stay there for awhile and he will either go potty or sometimes he just doesn't have to. But when I ask him if he needs to go he will ALWAYS say "not yet." His father feels that i should put him on it kicking and screaming every 15 minutes (ok I guess we don't agree on this either) I don't want this to be traumatic experience for him. Am I being too sensitive or what same may say a push over? I guess my question is how do I motivate him to just try and get on the potty more often? Is he just not ready? When he does go potty on the potty he is so proud and he gets a prize out of the prize bag but even reminding him how great he felt doesn't help. Any advice or tips will be greatly appreciated! I would also like to add that he is more comfortable learning sitting down so we are not at the stage do do the cheerios or fruit loops in the toilet! Thank you so much for any help!!!

My son just turned 4 in may, and he is SO resistant of pooping in the potty, and we have tried EVERYTHING under the sun to get him to go in the toilet, but he just wont go. I know he can control it, because he wont poop anywhere but at home, in a pullup. He goes pee totally fine in the potty though, but I just started him off standing from the start, I had him watch his dad, but even though he sees me & his big sister going pee & poop on the potty, he dosent watch daddy to much since he works midnights, so hes being potty trained pretty much by women, lol. I feel like no matter what I try, he just wont go poop on the toilet. Im at a loss as well, and espically concerned since he starts pre-k in the fall. we do pullups only at night, and even with those on, he stays dry most times, and even gets up to pee in the miggle of the night, suprisingly! its just the pooping issue we cant master, so im sorry but i dont have any suggestions for that. we tried the stickers chart, which worked for the pee. plus we let him 'water the trees' outside in the summertime, because he gets so involved in play he forgets to go, and when we remind him he gets mad because hes kind of wet but not too much. he likes to pee outside so maybe that could be a start for your son when your outside. or let him go without anything on int he house, no pants or undies so its easier for him to get there faster without having to mess with a diaper/pullup. good luck, i can totally relate :)
